Magic Tips Best Bets

Jockey: Grant V/NIEKERK - Trainer: Mike BASS

There isn't much to choose between many of these juvenile fillies on form but the draws could make a significant difference, despite just eight runners going to post. The Mike Bass inmate SUBLIME LADY is coming along the right way and she finished strongly for a close 2nd in the Nursery over six furlongs, recently. She shed her maiden certificate over this c & d prior to that and has good scope for improv- ement. The daughter of Captain Al jumps from a good barrier draw of 2 and merits healthy respect.

LANNER FALCON is a very classy daughter of Trippi and she benefitted from her recent 11 week absence. The classy four-year old had two exciting sprints in as many comeback performances, the latest being a strong finish for a close 3rd in a listed feature in yielding conditions, four weeks ago. Her record over a mile isn't inspiring but she will relish this rise in distance and drops heavily in class. The Mike Bass inmate is best in on official ratings in this listed contest and she will take a power of beating on her third run back from a break.

Jockey: Greg CHEYNE - Trainer: Mike BASS

ROYAL DREAMER has always given the indication that the Winter Derby is his main mission and the Bass inmate came through his final prep in the Classic in fine style. He produced his customary strong finishing burst to get up close to home over the nine furlongs in yielding conditions, that day. The Rebel King gelding has been equally effective over ten furlongs and he has lots of scope for improvem- ent. He runs very well for Greg Cheyne and should go close in this field.

Jockey: Aldo DOMEYER - Trainer: Mike BASS

CASTLETHORPE is still loving his racing and though he isn't totally reliable nowadays, he still has plenty of spark as he displayed when getting up late to win a good contest over seven furlongs, two weeks ago. He takes on stronger opposition now but has had some respectable sprint efforts and should give another solid performance. The Bass inmate will again be ridden by in-form jockey Aldo Domeyer.

Race 4: LORD MARSHAL(3) (Each Way)
Jockey: Karl NEISIUS - Trainer: Dean KANNEMEYER

This is an intriguing Grade 3 contest and the recent ERNIE formline over seven furlongs on 31/05 could dominate proceedings. LORD MARSHAL went off as the heavily supported favourite that day but failed to kick on in the closing stages and was beaten almost four lengths by the former. However, that was in yielding conditions and the son of Horse Chestnut could certainly prefer the going on top. He is now 2kgs better off with his conqueror and is crucially drawn in pole position. He could cause an upset and overturn the form. The former had his first try around the turn that day and he ran on well to collar the long-time leader PRINCE OF THIEVES close to home. He is also 2kgs worse off with the runner up but has plenty more to come and still merits strong consideration.
