Magic Tips Best Bets
Jockey: Piere STRYDOM - Trainer: Louis GOOSEN
DOING IT FOR DAN is a model of consistency and he only tired late after moving up well behind APPROVAL RATING over 1160m, two weeks ago. The 1kg weight reversal in his favour, suggests that he still has work to do to reverse the form with his conqueror but the removal of blinkers could certainly do the trick. Also, Piere Strydom knows the Windrush gelding well.
Race 3: MADAME DUBOIS(2) - TOP BET
Jockey: Piere STRYDOM - Trainer: Robbie SAGE
MADAME DUBOIS is a smart, progressive sort who returns from a successful escapade to KZN where she stayed on for a creditable 3rd in a Grade 1 event at Scottsville over six furlongs, three weeks ago. The obvious concern is whether she has recovered from the journey but there is no doubting the class of the Count Dubois filly who is bred to love every but of this extra furlong. She is drawn well on her first venture around the turn and top jockey Piere Strydom will guide her.
Race 5: PRINCESS TANTAN(5)
Jockey: Piere STRYDOM - Trainer: Johan Janse v/Vuuren
PRINCESS TANTAN has shown vast improvement since returning from a long absence and she could be ready to handle this rise in class. The weights don't favour the daughter of Holy Roman Emperor but she is improving nicely and rates a big threat, if repeating her last outing. The three-year old bay filly was drawn widest of 13 in a competitive line-up over 1450m on the inside track but she challenged strongly and finished a close 3rd, beaten just half a length at the line. This standside track should suit her much better and she is a big contender from a handy draw.
Race 6: RAINY DAY BLUES(13)
Jockey: D Mansour - Trainer: Joe SOMA
RAIN DAY BLUES had excuses for his moderate second outing but that was in a competitive field and the chestnut gelding was taking a rather steep rise in distance. Of course, he caught the eye when he ran on steadily for 5th on debut over seven furlongs on this track. The half-brother to graded winner Solid Speed has cracked a good draw this time and this drop in distance will suit him perfectly. It will be interesting to see who picks up the ride on the progressive son of Western Winter.
VALUE BET FOR TODAY:
Jockey: S'manga KHUMALO - Trainer: Wallace TOLMAY
Title seeking in-form jockey S'manga Khumalo has cleverly secured the ride on OPAH LATINO from the equally in-form Wallace Tolmay yard. This three-year old gelding continues to plummet in the ratings and he showed decent improvement when only tiring late over 1700m from a bad draw, recently. He has faced some decent opposition along the way and will now be cherry-ripe on his third run after the rest. The Latino Magic gelding jumps from a much better draw and he could represent some good each way value.
