Jockey: S'manga KHUMALO - Trainer: Wallace TOLMAY

Just seven runners go to post for this opening event after RED SCIMITAR won his maiden last Thursday and won't be eligible for this contest. Six of those entrants represent The Big Shot formline over a mile on this track. BATTLE OF ARCOLE had major issues that kept him out of racing for a long time but he has come back well and produced his career best effort, recently. He overcame a shocking draw with Khumalo in the irons that day and only tired late to finish a creditable 3rd, beaten just under three lengths at the line. He was only a head adrift of the runner-up DUBLIN REBEL and should easily negotiate this extra furlong on his pedigree. The Mogok helding has scope for improvement and merits obvious respect.

Race 3: WALKABOUT(3)
Jockey: S'manga KHUMALO - Trainer: DAVID Nieuwenhuizen

The African Affair formline on 04/06 should dominate the finish WALKABOUT and PERA HUR could be involved in a titanic struggle. Just a short head separated the pair in favour of the former in that last event over six furlongs. The Indigo Magic gelding ran on strongly for 2nd that day and he has placed over this extra distance. It comes as little surprise that Khumalo retains the ride on the chestnut who gets the nod with blinkers fitted for the first time.

Jockey: Piere STRYDOM - Trainer: Louis GOOSEN

Some classy speedsters have assembled for this pinnacle contest over the minimum distance and a thrilling finish is on the cards. TRIP TEASE has been defeated just once from seven runs on this track and he proved himself against the highest grade when finishing a creditable 4th on the grass, last time out. That formline has worked out extremely well with the 2nd and 3rd placed finishers winning subsequent Grade 1 contests. This son of Trippi deserved his eight week absence and he should go very close in this line-up.

Race 6: KATCH(5)
Jockey: Gavin LERENA - Trainer: Scott KENNY

KATCH is seldom far off and she bounced back to form with a close-up finish on the grass against stronger, three weeks ago. She finished strongly behind some useful male rivals and will have more to come on her third run back from a break. The daughter of Kahal won her only start on this surface and she should stake a serious claim back against her own sex.

Race 8: INKOLO(10) (Each Way)
Jockey: Hennie GREYLING - Trainer: Leon ERASMUS

INKOLO hasn't been beaten far in recent efforts and her last run is better than it initially appears. The daughter of Muhtafal was well beaten into 4th that day but was drawn badly and finished just a length and a half behind her stable companion WILHELMINA in that same event. She is 1kg better off but is crucially drawn really well at gate 2 whilst the latter jumps from barrier 14. Her only victory came over this distance.
