Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 1: NEWS FILTER(1)
Jockey: Randall SIMONS - Trainer: Stuart PETTIGREW

NEWS FILTER has attracted decent market in all three of her runs and she brought her homework to the sand track when she cruised to victory over the minimum distance, four weeks ago. She obviously enjoy- ed being equipped with blinkers that day and has plenty of room for improvement. The daughter of Captain Al should have little issues with this extra furlong and she is back against her own age group today.

Race 4: JAY BOY(1)
Jockey: Ian STURGEON - Trainer: Gavin VAN ZYL

JAY BOY relished racing on the sand for the first time as he ran on well to record an impressive win over his stablemate over this c & d, three weeks ago. The Van Zyl inmate did things the hard way when racing wide but showed plenty of character to quicken well in the closing stages. He may have escaped with just a four pound penalty and from pole position he can certainly follow-up in this weaker field.

Race 5: TZIGANE(1) - TOP BET
Jockey: S'manga KHUMALO - Trainer: Barend BOTES

TZIGANE was outclassed in the Grade 1 at Scottsville last time but she takes a considerable drop in class and is effective on this surface. The six week break would have helped her cause and she should be competitive in this field.

Race 6: TORO ROSSO (BRZ)(5)
Jockey: Johnny GEROUDIS - Trainer: Mike DE KOCK

TORO ROSSO has shown high class form in his three starts and he relished racing on this surface, five weeks ago. The imported Mike de Kock inmate shouldered a big mass on his handicap debut over six furlongs but he crushed his rivals by exactly eight lengths. The powers that be could only raise the Elusive Quality colt the maximum eight pounds but he is way above that rating and looks a top class sand performer in the making. He could be an early Emerald Cup candidate who will have no issues rising in grade and distance. The three-year old bay colt should take a power of beating.

Race 7: KING'S JOY(1) (Each Way)
Jockey: S'manga KHUMALO - Trainer: Wallace TOLMAY

KING'S JOY had excuses for his last effort but he found some of his better form prior to that and Khumalo retains the ride. His pole barrier position is an obvious plus and he should make improvement on his favourite track.
