Magic Tips Best Bets

Jockey: Marcus A - Trainer: Laird A G

EMERALD MACKAY is the only representative from the Alec Laird yard on today's card. The four-year old gelding boasts promising Gauteng form, albeit he has been costly to follow in his short career. However, his trainer's horses have taken to this surface and the engaging of Anton Marcus suggests that his conditioner will have the bay spot on. He has done well with blinkers in recent starts and should go very close from a good draw.

Jockey: Mgudlwa A - Trainer: Wright A J

This is a moderate maiden contest and obvious caution is advised. GOODNIGHT SEATTLE is capable albeit not reliable but she deserves plenty of respect in this field. The bay filly produced her career best effort over this c & d four starts ago and she showed encouraging signs with a solid last performance on the grass.

Race 5: ANGEL'S POWER(3)
Jockey: Balloo A - Trainer: Impey B

ANGEL'S POWER was known as Corpus Christi when he landed the betting coup with a brilliant display on debut on the Highveld, three weeks ago. The three-year old bay colt made up huge ground to collar some speedy sorts close to home over five furlongs at Turffontein and he already looks to have a bright future. The handicapper's have given him a big mass to shoulder on his handicap debut but the son of Miesque's Approval is way above-average and he could prove equal to the task. This track should suit his running style and it is most encouraging that Brian Wiid has retained the services of Gauteng based Andrew Fortune.

Race 8: YOU BOLT(1)
Jockey: Sturgeon I - Trainer: Puller G B

YOU BOLT has a cracking polytrack record and she drops heavily in class after competing against much stronger on the grass, recently. She represents an in-form yard and though she is 2kgs worse off with the seasoned campaigner QUINTELLA for a short head c & d victory, she has plenty more scope and could again be the one to beat. The bay mare will benefit from a good barrier position. The latter needs to once again negotiate a wide barrier but she runs on well and must be included.

Race 4: LONG WALK(4)
Jockey: Randolph S - Trainer: G/K Anthony

LONG WALK is developing into a polytrack specialist and he got back to form with two useful recent efforts on this surface. He did so despite overracing over six furlongs last time and he ran on at the finish for 3rd. The Right Approach gelding has finally cracked a good draw and that should prove significant.
