Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 1: LIKE JANIS(3)
Jockey: Grant V/NIEKERK - Trainer: Ronnie SHEEHAN

LIKE JANIS has often attracted outside betting support and she finally showed what she is capable of when pipped in heavy conditions over this c & d, four weeks ago. She was returning from a 15 week rest and should strip fitter. The daughter of Dynasty has scope for further improvement and she should go close in this field.

Jockey: Greg CHEYNE - Trainer: Vaughan MARSHALL

CAPTAIN SAM has firmly got his career back on track and he won a good event on his return to the 'Mother City', four weeks ago. The well-related Captain Al gelding ran on well to beat a competitive field in heavy conditions that day, despite returning from a 13 week break. He will strip fitter now and has huge room for improvement. The Marshall inmate is ready for this step-up in grade and he should give a good account of himself with just 53.5kgs on his back.

Jockey: Bernard FAYD'HERBE - Trainer: Justin SNAITH

Only a small field of seven runners go to post here and the pace or lack thereof is the obvious worry. However, the blinkers clearly sharpened JOHNNY ROCKETS up last time and the six-year old chestnut could take all the beating, even in a likely false run affair. The Snaith inmate loves this c & d and he finished strongly for a close 4th behind Catkin in heavy conditions last time, despite jumping slowly.

Race 7: SEA GLASS(6)
Jockey: Corne ORFFER - Trainer: Brett CRAWFORD

The Justin Snaith yard has kept this race alive with their trio of representatives, but two of which have fallen by the wayside. With just five runners going to post the pace could be a serious worry. However, SEA GLASS will have no issue as she displayed her great turn of foot to shed her maiden tag in facile fashion over nine furlongs last time. She takes a considerable rise in class but is obvious- ly rated by her conditioner and she could be ahead of the handicapper at this early stage. The daught- er of Silvano could certainly be one to watch during the summer.

Race 6: SHEPHERDS PURSE(8) (Each Way)
Jockey: Robert KHATHI - Trainer: Piet STEYN

SHEPHERDS PURSE often runs on late and he swooped in the latter stages to win a very good race going away at Durbanville over this distance, ten days ago. That earned him a five pound penalty but he has more to offer and it is a huge bonus that the Windrush gelding has finally cracked a good draw. He had excuses but still got close to THAT COWBOY KID over this c & d in his penultimate outing. He now faces his conqueror on 2kgs better terms and can certainly turn that around.
