Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: ROY'S GOLD(1)
Jockey: Mxothwa L - Trainer: Govender Y

ROY'S GOLD has struggled to reproduce her debut performance but she showed some encouraging signs when running on steadily over a mile on this track last time. She has changed stables since and the daught- er of Horse Chestnut has cleverly been equipped with blinkers by her new conditioner. Her pedigree and running style suggests that she could relish this rise in distance and the four-year old bay filly should give a good account of herself in an ordinary field. The one slight concern is her fitness as she returns from an 11 week break.

Jockey: Yeni M - Trainer: Denysschen L

The Night Tide c & d formline on 08/07 could dominate proceedings in this staying handicap. BATTLE HAMMER continues to be consistent but along with most of his rivals, earned a thrashing at the hands of the Gauteng raider Noble Star in soft conditions on Gold Cup Day. However, he faces more suitable opposition and was close-up behind Night Tide in his penultimate run. Muzi Yeni retains the ride on the gelding.

Jockey: Yeni M - Trainer: Howells D C

This is a most intriguing handicap, featuring some classy up-and-coming sorts and the Duncan Howells stable saddles half of the field of eight runners. Two unbeaten records are on the line and COSMIC LIGHT makes a surprising seasonal debut before she heads off to the Cape for the summer. The top class daughter of Querari smashed her rivals on debut over this c & d and then handled all obstacles extrem- ely well to win a feature from a wide draw at Greyville, second time out. She faces older rivals for the first time in her career but has a huge reputation and could be equal to the difficult task at hand.

Race 8: RAINIER(2)
Jockey: Balloo A - Trainer: Roberts M L

RAINIER is in good touch and he had a cracking last run over this c & d, four weeks ago. The six-year old was caught late in strong company over this c & d last time and he finished well clear of the 3rd placed runner that day. The six-year old gelding will strip fitter and he has huge claims against lesser rivals today. He will again get a 4kgs apprentice allowance.

Race 3: MY LOVELY(7)
Jockey: Nyawo B - Trainer: Goodman J M

MY LOVELY showed encouraging signs of a form return with a decent last effort on the polytrack. She is now back against her own sex and her best recent run was over this c & d. The lightly weighted mare must be considered in this line-up.
