Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 1: GARDEN QUEEN(12)
Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE - Trainer: Renate DU PLESSIS

GARDEN QUEEN drifted alarmingly but produced an exciting debut under in-form veteran jockey Fortune, over this c & d, three weeks ago. She showed decent pace and was gaining strongly at the finish behind a real fast sort. That experience would have benefitted the daughter of Rebel King and the 3rd placed finisher gave that form a boost when finally shedding her maiden tag. This chestnut filly will need to negotiate the widest barrier position but she is obviously above-average and could still take all the beating.

Race 3: ZANDER(8) - TOP BET
Jockey: Karl ZECHNER - Trainer: Dorrie SHAM

This is an extremely competitive start to the Pick 6 and an exciting finish is expected. ZANDER is lightly raced and has shown promise in both his six furlong efforts on this track. He was pegged back late by a quality newcomer last time out and still has plenty of room for further improvement. The son of Captain Al will relish the likely blistering speed over this minimum distance and he could continue his stable's good run of form. He is drawn well at gate 4.

Race 4: GAUTENG(1)
Jockey: Raymond DANIELSON - Trainer: Tara LAING

GAUTENG found the trip too sharp for her last time but she was making steady progress and will be an entirely different proposition over the mile today. She had little go her way but still finished close up in 2nd over this c & d at her penultimate start. Her wide draw is a slight concern but she deserves plenty of respect in a moderate line-up.

Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE - Trainer: Justin SNAITH

The Justin Snaith inmate AMARILLO STARLIGHT was immediately rested after she pulled up lame in a very disappointing last effort in a feature on this track. She returns from a 15 week break and that would have done her the world of good. The daughter of Argonaut is extremely capable as she showed with an impressive c & d win at pinnacle stakes level, three runs back. She is best in on official ratings and the engaging of Fortune suggests that her conditioner will have her fit and ready.

Race 8: VAVASOUR(6) (Each Way)
Jockey: S'manga KHUMALO - Trainer: Yvette BREMNER

VAVASOUR has surprisingly been sold after getting back to form on his favourite surface, Greyville's polytrack last time out. He was given a strong ride by Khumalo when keeping going to beat a decent line-up over seven furlongs that day. The Var gelding was handed a four pound penalty for his efforts but is still lightly raced and has more room for improvement. He has cracked pole position on his local debut and interestingly Khumalo retains the ride for his new conditioner.
