Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 4: CHOPPIES(5)
Jockey: Herholdt F - Trainer: V/Rensburg S J

CHOPPIES has turned his fortunes around since adopting a change of tactics and he produced the run of his life when he gunned down the odds-on highly rated favourite at novice level over this trip on the grass, three weeks ago. Things will be much different for the Casey Tibbs gelding today, as he now switches to the polytrack. He has had two shocking attempts on this course but that was with his then speedy tactics, and the four-year old could be a totally different proposition now. Furthermore, he takes a big dip in class on his handicap debut and is still ahead of the handicapper. He could take some beating and should relish the likely suicidal pace.

Race 6: CRACKPOT(1)
Jockey: Morgenrood B - Trainer: Wiese M

CRACKPOT was rewarded for ultra-consistent form as she ran on smartest to beat weaker over 1900m on this track, two weeks ago. She has proven that she can easily adapt to this slight rise in class and is equally effective over the shorter trip. She again gets the services of quality visiting jockey Morgenrood and could defy her four pound penalty. Her wide draw isn't a major issue as she often races from way off the early speed.

Race 7: SAMHAAN(3)
Jockey: Zackey C - Trainer: Smith G D

The Russian Mig c & d formline on 3/08 should stand up tall in the day's topliner and once again a close finish is expected. SAMHAAN continues to be his own worst enemy by jumping slowly but he has bounced right back to form with two solid recent efforts. He challenged strongly when going down a head into 2nd in the contest referred to above and a likely sedate gallop could play into his hands. The six-year old chestnut gelding should again go very close in this line-up.

Race 8: GRAPE VINE(1) - TOP BET
Jockey: Fortune A - Trainer: Snaith J S

GRAPE VINE handled this surface with aplomb as he produced a powerful late burst for a deserved victory over seven furlongs, eight weeks ago. The Elusive Fort gelding has taken well to racing in PE and he seems to have escaped with just a three pound penalty. Furthermore, he will prefer today's extra furlong and has strong claims of following up.

VALUE BET FOR TODAY:

Race 1: SKY FULL OF STAR(9)
Jockey: Zechner K - Trainer: Sham D

The three-year old SKY FULL OF STARS has improved in recent outings since going over ground and he had a fair polytrack debut last Friday. He was equipped with blinkers for the first time and made some late, albeit never dangerous progress over the seven furlongs. The chestnut colt will again wear the headgear and the mile could suit him better. He jumps from pole position and should continue to progress.
