The Ram Slam T20 Challenge continues on Friday evening will all six franchises in action across South Africa. The bizhub Highveld Lions will host the Unlimited Titans in the only televised match of the evening. Elsewhere, the Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras welcome the Chevrolet Warriors while the Sunfoil Dolphins travel to Kimberly to face the VKB Knights.

bizhub Highveld Lions vs the Unlimited Titans

The battle of the Highveld will see the Unlimited Titans make the short trip down the N12 when they travel to Senwes Park to take on the bizhub Highveld Lions. Both teams will head into the game off the back of disappointing losses to the Sunfoil Dolphins and will be keen to secure victory on Friday evening.

The Lions will have been bitterly disappointed after snatching defeat from the jaws of victory against the Dolphins on Wednesday night. The Johannesburg franchise were cruising after an excellent opening stand which saw the men from Gauteng move to 40 in the first four overs in pursuit of the Dolphins' 174. Following their bright start, the Dolphins managed to slow things down and restricted the Lions to just 36 runs for the wicket of van der Dussen in the next six overs. Alviro Petersen and Devon Conway did well to keep the run rate under control, however, some excellent death bowling from Andile Phehlukwayo and Kyle Abbott ensured that Lance Klusner’s side secured a one-run win.

The Titans also lost last time out against the Dolphins and will be desperate to secure their first win of the campaign. The men from Pretoria have arguably the best squad on paper in this year’s competition, boasting the likes of Quinton de Kock, Henry Davids, Heino Kuhn, Albie Morkel, Chris Morris and Marchant de Lange; who all have plenty of experience at this level. Expect them to come out firing on Friday night.

Verdict: bizhub Highveld Lions 11/10
The Lions have put in two superb performances against teams that were expected to beat them comfortably. I expect them the get the job done at home against The Titans, especially if Phangiso and Leie can keep the scoring down in the middle overs.

Cape Cobras vs the Chevrolet Warriors
The Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras will be looking to get their first win of this season’s Ram Slam T20 Challenge when they host the Chevrolet Warriors at Boland Park in Paarl.

The Cape side will have been disappointed after losing their first match of the season against a supposedly inferior bizhub Highveld Lions side. After a relatively bright by Richard Levi and Andrew Puttick, the Cobras faded away, setting a measly 124 for eight in their 18 overs. The Lions had little trouble chasing down the total, getting there with eight balls to spare.

The Warriors went up against the VKB Knights in the other rain-affected match at Newlands last Sunday. With only six overs to play with, the Knights posted an extremely competitive 81 for two. The Warriors’ chase didn’t get off to the ideal start, losing four early wickets for just 40 runs before Ryan McLaren’s 14-ball 34 sent the game into a super over. The Knights batted first in the single-over shootout and lost both batsmen to consecutive deliveries leaving the Warriors with just a single run to secure victory. Colin Ingram hit the winning runs with boundary after a dot ball to seal the win for the PE-based franchise.

Verdict: Cape Cobras 4/7
The Cobras will be desperate to get off of the mark in this season’s tournament. Pound-for-pound, they do have the stronger of the two squads. Back them to get the job done in Boland on Friday.

VKB Knights vs the Sunfoil Dolphins
The VKB Knights will have to be on top of their game if they’re going to get one over an in-form Sunfoil Dolphins side at the De Beers Diamond Oval in Kimberly on Friday evening.

The Knights will feel that they should have won their opening fixture of the season against the Warriors. In a rain-affected game, the Free State-based franchise posted 81 for two in their six overs. The Warriors’ innings got off to a pretty poor start before they were bailed out by a superb Ryan McLaren innings in which he scored an unbeaten 34 off just 17 balls, forcing the game into a super over. The Knights batted first in the one-over shootout but were dismissed without scoring. Colin Ingram scored the winning runs off the second ball, condemning the Knights to defeat.

The Dolphins head into this game looking like the side to beat at this season’s tournament. Having secured two close-fought victories against two of the stronger franchises in the competition, the men from KZN will be looking for maximum points when they travel to the de Beers Diamond Oval in Kimberly this Friday.

Verdict: Sunfoil Dolphins 8/15
The Dolphins have been in excellent form of late and really shouldn’t have any problem putting this Knights side to the sword. Back them to get the job done at 8/15.
