Serie A: Week 29 Preview

Written by Aaron Crowie for @HollywoodbetsFollow them both on Twitter and Facebook now!

With just ten games to go, the Serie A remains a tight fought affair, particularly at the summit of the table. Juventus are just three points clear of second place Napoli, whilst Roma and Inter Milan are still hot on their heels in third and fourth spot. The bottom-three remains unchanged with Frosinone, Carpi and Hellas Verona occupying the relegation places.

The Serie A is going to go down to the wire – not just for the teams at the top- but the sides at the bottom fighting to survive the drop as well. And in the midst of it all, we as punters will be there to reap the rewards.

Friday 11 March

Juventus 4/10 | Draw 34/10 | Sassuolo 15/2

Massimiliano Allegri’s Juventus were joined at the top by their Scudetto rivals Napoli on Saturday night but re-established their advantage, as a rare goal from the defender Andrea Barzagli and a late strike from the substitute Mario Lemina secured a 2-0 victory over Atalanta at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia. The Bianconeri have won seven of their last eight league games and will look to add to that. Sassuolo come to town in some form of their own. They have won three consecutive games, scoring seven goals and conceding just twice. However, it’s difficult seeing them leaving Juve’s ground with a point, let alone three. The home win should be backed.

Saturday 12 March

Empoli 11/10 | Draw 24/10 | Sampdoria 24/10

Empoli remain in mid-table and without a victory since the tenth of January after suffering a fourth straight defeat last Sunday afternoon – going down 1-0 at Genoa. The loss also stretches their winless run to nine matches. Sampdoria will look to leapfrog Empoli on Saturday evening as they go in search of a third consecutive win. La Samp have won back-to-back games, scoring five goals without conceding. A cagey affair is expected, but Sampdoria are tipped on the Double Chance at 13/20.

Inter Milan 5/10 | Draw 3/1 | Bologna 57/10

Inter Milan got back to winning ways last time out with a well-deserved 3-1 home win against Palermo. Inter have now won their last three home games, scoring nine goals and conceding only twice in the process. Bologna will look to end that run, but look highly unlikely to do so, given the fact that they have scored just two goals in their last six games, including three goalless draws on the spin. Inter won the reverse tie 1-0 and are tipped to pull the double over their opponents.

Sunday 13 March

Chievo 34/10 | Draw 24/10 | AC Milan 17/20

Chievo fell to a 3-1 defeat last Saturday evening, but remain in 10th place on the log. They have lost five of their last eight matches and need to get back to winning ways before the teams in the bottom half of the table take advantage of their poor form. AC Milan failed to close the gap on third place after slipping to a 2-0 defeat to Sassuolo last Sunday afternoon. The result ended an unbeaten run of 11 matches in all competitions. They need a strong reaction to that defeat, and their record against their opponents shows they are more than capable of claiming the victory. The Rossoneri are unbeaten in the last 18 meetings against Chievo, including 16 victories. The away win is tipped.

Carpi 19/20 | Draw 24/10 | Frosinone 3/1

Newly-promoted Carpi and Frosinone will lock horns in a relegation dogfight on Sunday afternoon. Carpi are without a win in their last eight matches and have scored just two goals in their last six games. Frosinone sit just one point from safety in Serie A after beating Udinese 2-0 at Stadio Matusa. The promoted side recently suffered a run of six defeats from eight games but now only daylight separates them from 17th-placed Palermo after goals from Daniel Ciofani and Leonardo Blanchard sent Udinese packing. However, their away form is a worry for concern, as they have lost 10 of their 13 travels, scoring only 10 goals. Neither team will want to lose this one, and could take a defensive approach. Take Under 2.5 Goals at 7/10.

Fiorentina 3/10 | Draw 42/10 | Hellas Verona 82/10

Fiorentina were thumped 4-1 at Roma last weekend, but will gladly return to their ground, where they have won 10 of their 14 matches. The Viola will welcome the visit of Hellas Verona, who were thumped 3-0 by Sampdoria in their Saturday afternoon Serie A meeting at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi. The Gialloblu lie rock-bottom on the Serie A standing and will be desperate to find some sort of form here. However, Fiorentina should prove too strong for their opponents and are tipped on the Halftime/Fulltime Double at 8/10.

Genoa 14/10 | Draw 21/10 | Torino 21/10

Genoa are five points clear of the relegation zone after Luca Rigoni eased Genoa’s relegation fears with a goal that secured a vital 1-0 Serie A victory over Empoli. The Rossoblu have won back-to-back home games and will be aiming to make it three in a row when they host Torino. The Granata have managed just one victory from their last eight matches and are winless away to Genoa in the last 12 meetings. Genoa won this fixture 5-1 last season and are tipped to claim maximum points here.

Udinese 7/2 | Draw 5/2 | Roma 8/10

Udinese have been dismal in recent weeks with three losses from their last four matches, including a disappointing 2-0 defeat at relegation-contenders Frosinone last time out. Roma are up next, and they come around in red-hot form, winning seven matches on the spin, plus a 4-1 win over Fiorentina in front of their die-hard supporters last Friday night. It won’t be cut and dry, but Roma are in top form and are playing some phenomenal football at present. Get on the away win.

Lazio 11/20  | Draw 28/10 | Atalanta 11/2

Lazio are settled for a 1-1 draw at Torino last weekend, but will return to their ground where they have been fairly decent with seven wins from 14 games. Atalanta are flirting with relegation as they lie 16th on the log, just four points clear of the relegation zone.  They are without a win in their last nine matches, including six draws and three defeats. Lazio have won eight of the last nine meetings at home against Atalanta and are tipped to build on that.

Palermo 15/2 | Draw 42/10 | Napoli 7/20

Palermo extended their run without a victory to seven matches last time out, going down 3-1 at Inter Milan. Napoli returned to the top of Serie A on goal difference on Saturday after coming from behind to defeat Chievo 3-1. However, Juventus did beat Atalanta 2-0 on Sunday to reclaim their spot at the summit. The Azzurri will now look to keep the pressure on the log-leaders with a win here. Palermo are fighting at the bottom of the table and are just a point above the drop zone, so it would be reckless to bet against a team fighting for survival, especially with Napoli priced up so low. Rather take Both Teams To Score at 17/20, six of the last seven meetings at Palermo’s home patch have seen the pair find the back of the net.
