Race 8: ULTIMATE SURVIVAL(1)

Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 1: ODD ROB(3)

Jockey: Muzi YENI – Trainer: Gavin VAN ZYL

ODD ROB clearly has issues but he has still produced some quality efforts to date. The lightly raced four-year-old gelding had an encouraging comeback run for his new yard when he stayed on for 2nd over seven furlongs on the standside course, despite not being given the strongest ride. The son of Mambo In Seattle should strip fitter now and this extra furlong suits him well. He has track experience and jumps from the best draw with an in-form jockey in the saddle. However, the slight worry is whether this run comes too soon for the Van Zyl inmate.

Race 2: LIEGE(3)

Jockey: Karl ZECHNER – Trainer: Sean TARRY

This is a most intriguing graduation contest that features just six entrants over the mile. In the absence of a natural pacesetter, there could be a serious lack of a decent gallop and that makes for an exciting finish. The weights are against the Dynasty colt LIEGE but he boasts an impressive turn of foot and the sedate gallop will play right into his hands. The Tarry charge was super-impressive when he trounced his maiden rivals in his only track appearance. He has competed against the best of his generation subsequently and had two fair runs at the back of his Cape stint. The bay colt probably needed his comeback run on the Highveld in the Guineas last time but is now 3kgs better off with his stablemate MALAK EL MOOLOOK for a 4.70 length defeat and he could be a totally different proposition today. He went close in a Grade 3 in his only start over this distance.

Top Bet

Race 5: TROPHY WIFE(3)

Jockey: Julius MARIBA – Trainer: Sean TARRY

TROPHY WIFE was bitterly disappointing when she failed to collar her frontrunning stablemate over nine furlongs on this track, two weeks ago. The slow start and the sedate gallop didn’t help the classy daughter of Tiger Ridge who will certainly prefer the faster pace over today’s shorter distance. She is well treated at the weights on official ratings and should take a power of beating despite her wide draw.

Race 8: ULTIMATE SURVIVAL(1)

Jockey: Juan-PAUL VAN DER MERVE – Trainer: Alec LAIRD

Track experience could be crucial in this competitive maiden contest and ULTIMATE SURVIVAL has finished runner-up in both her efforts on this course. She boasts solid credentials even though she has found a few too good for her in recent efforts but the daughter of Greys Inn could dictate her own terms today. The mile should suit her perfectly.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 7: LADIES CLUB(9)

Jockey: Ryan MUNGER – Trainer: Gary ALEXANDER

The older runners are well handicapped in this fillies and mares contest and LADIES CLUB and PAREE could profit the most. The former was always going to be outclassed at graduation level last time but the track specialist had solid form prior to that and she will prefer racing on today’s handicap terms. She jumps from a fair draw and should be involved in the finish.
