HOLLYWOODBETS Comments:
  • Rabada ran a cracking race to win the Daily News 2000 - a race often used as an indicator for the Durban July winner. Watch the race here!
  • Rabada ran in the KZN Breeders Million Mile on Sunday 26th June. He finished in 2nd place. He will have the shortest rest of all the runners going into this Vodacom Durban July.
  • Rabada is drawn in gate 12. The last horse to win from gate 12 was Big Charles in 1981.
  • Rabada's last four runs include two wins and two second places.
  • Rabada has not finished out of the top two when running at Greyville. He has run five times, with three wins, and two seconds!
  • Jockey MJ Byleveld will be riding in his 11th Vodacom Durban July. His best finish was in 2014, where although he won the race on Wylie Hall, he was relegated to second position on the outcome of an objection.
  • MJ Byleveld will be experiencing his first race ride on Rabada. Anton Marcus has ridden Rabada for all 9 of his runs.
  • Trainer Mike Azzie is the grandson of trainer George Azzie. George Azzie won the Vodacom Durban July on three occasions - Preto's Crown (1955), Numeral (1964), and Riboville (1974).
  • Mike Azzie also trains another two horses in this race. Rabada and the reserve runner Deputy Jud.
  • Mike Azzie had Deputy Jud in the 2015 running of the Durban July, but unfortunately finished in 17th place. Deputy Jud will run in the 2016 running should two horses be scratched before Friday 1st July.
  • Mike Azzie's best finish in the Vodacom Durban July was in 2010 with his runner Service Ace, who finished in 4th position.
