Race 3: NORTHERN BALLET(4)
Jockey: Richard FOURIE – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

NORTHERN BALLET had an exciting comeback run in yielding conditions over seven furlongs and she will prefer today’s rise in distance. The daughter of Silvano was returning from a 22-week break and she was drawn wide but still finished strongly for a close 2nd behind a rank outsider. She was in turn, over three lengths clear of the 3rd placed finisher and the Snaith inmate will be fitter today. She should be a lively contender in this line-up and won’t mind a likely sedate gallop.

Race 4: VOLATILE ENERGY(15)
Jockey: Grant VAN NIEKERK – Trainer: Mike BASS

The juveniles could take centre stage in this opening leg of the Jackpot and VOLATILE ENERGY from the Mike Bass team gets the nod. The improving Seventh Rock gelding benefitted from his first experience around the turn as he produced his career-best effort over this trip in yielding conditions at Durbanville, three weeks ago. He was pipped in the final strides that day but should continue to progress and can certainly go one better here. He has the early gate speed to overcome his slightly awkward draw.

Race 6: TWINKLE TOES(7)

Jockey: Richard FOURIE – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

This handicap for fillies & mares could be a replay of the previous event as the numerous speedsters could again be fighting each other for the early lead and that should lead to their demise. The light- ly raced and possibly injury plagued TWINKLE TOES has a decent dash and that will stand her in good stead. She was returning from a lengthy 43-week absence but showed her class when easily beating her maiden field over this c & d, second time out. The well-related daughter of Captain Al certainly has class about her and although it isn’t ideal that she races so soon, she could prove to be much better than rated and her quality may carry her through. The bay filly will be much fitter this time around.

Race 7: ACROSTAR(2)

Jockey: Richard FOURIE – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

The Ladies Mile formline on 25/06 is well-represented in this Grade 3 contest and should be worth following. ACROSTAR has had two decent comeback runs and she should be spot-on for today’s event. She was making steady progress for 4th over the mile in the contest referred to above and today’s nine furlongs will suit her perfectly. The Snaith inmate is well drawn on her peak effort and she can cause the upset from her good draw.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 2: PILLAR OF HERCULES(7)
Jockey: Donovan DILLON – Trainer: Joey RAMSDEN

The Oceans Trip c & d formline is very well-represented in this competitive maiden juvenile event and a close finish is expected. PILLAR OF HERCULES was quietly fancied on debut and after racing green, he ran on steadily to finish just out of the money. His conditioner’s horses are renowned for making smart improvement from their first attempts and this well-bred son of Captain Al should have plenty more to offer today.
