Race 3: COUNT'S QUEST(4)

Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 3: LAVITA NOIR(1)
Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE - Trainer: Alan GREEFF

Just eight runners head to post for this marathon maiden event and most interestingly, only one of them isn't represented by the Border Hopper c & d formline on the first day of July. The Greeff inmate LAVITA NOIR fared best of all when beaten three parts of a length into 2nd that day and although he was only a short head in front of his stable companion NEW DEAL on that occasion, he can still confirm the formline. The son of Black Minnaloushe has had the least attempts of all his rivals and he fought on gamely despite taking a bump in that last event. He now has his peak effort and Fortune retains the ride.

Jockey: Richard FOURIE - Trainer: Justin SNAITH

This Pinnacle Stakes contest is dominated by the JET EXPLORER formline over this distance on the polytrack in a feature on 29/07. The Snaith charge finished strongly to narrowly defeat KING OF CHAOS and RAHVAR but he is still weighted to confirm the form. The switch to the grass will suit him better and the veteran campaigner jumps from a good draw.

Race 5: KANARA(2)
Jockey: Greg CHEYNE - Trainer: Alan GREEFF

The topweights look set to dominate this seven-furlong fillies and mares handicap where an exciting finish should materialize. The classy KANARA showed exactly what she is capable of when bouncing back to form with a determined victory under a big mass over a mile on the polytrack, two weeks ago. She beat lesser on that occasion but was drawn wide and was returning from a ten-week absence. The daughter of Silvano was entitled to get tired in the closing stages but she will be fitter now and certainly has the class to go close in this field. Her record proves that she is even better over this trip and she certainly escaped with the minimum two-pound penalty. The Greeff inmate is well drawn at gate 2.

Race 7: SUN POWER(7)
Jockey: Juan-Paul VAN DER MERVE - Trainer: Gavin SMITH

The four-year-old SUN POWER has a decent c & d record and he finished well for 4th in a competitive field last time out. He was surprisingly docked a further pound in his rating subsequently and can take full advantage of that for his red-hot stable. The Lateral gelding does seem well handicapped in this contest. The three-year-old representatives are above-average but still they will be tested in this company.

Jockey: Muzi YENI - Trainer: Duncan MCKENZIE

disappointed on the polytrack last time but Yeni retains the ride on the former Cape inmate and that is encouraging. The four-year-old chestnut gelding had a decent local debut over a mile on the grass in his penultimate run and the switch to that surface today could make all the difference. He jumps from a good draw and can bounce back to form.
