We’re just two weeks into the 2016/17 Football League Championship season and things are already looking ominous for the likes of Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United while the likes of QPR, Bristol City, Huddersfield Town and Fulham have all claimed maximum points thus far.
We’ve got a full set of midweek fixtures coming our way this week which means plenty of opportunities for you build on any weekend profits that you may have made – below we’ll outline a cracking midweek multiple.
Tuesday 16 August
Burton Albion 47/20 | Draw 22/10 | Sheffield Wednesday 23/20
Newly promoted Burton Albion have found the going tough so far in the Championship. A 4-3 opening day loss away at Nottingham Forest was followed up by a 2-1 defeat at home to Bristol City. They will now face arguably their toughest test as they welcome Sheffield Wednesday – one of my pre-season promotion favourites – to the Pirelli Stadium on Tuesday evening. Wednesday currently find themselves on four points after two tough opening fixtures, against Norwich City and Aston Villa, and will be relishing the opportunity to flex their attacking muscle against one of the league’s weaker sides – back Wednesday at 23/20.
Brighton 5/10 | Draw 31/10 | Rotherham 11/2
Brighton are another side who have made a solid enough start to their 2016/17 campaign. They claimed a valuable away point at fellow promotion hopefuls, Derby before delivering a crushing 3-0 defeat to Forest this past weekend. Rotherham on the other hand, are a club just about everyone thought would suffer relegation this term following their amazing escape at the end of the previous campaign. A decent 2-2 draw at home against Wolves in the first round was followed by a 3-0 humbling at the hands of Villa. Brighton are far too strong for this plucky Rotherham side – back the Seagulls confidently at 5/10.
Norwich 8/10 | Draw 5/2 | Bristol 34/10
Alex Neil’s Norwich side have handled the drop back into the Championship incredibly well. They smashed Blackburn 4-1 in the first round before claiming a solid draw at home the Sheffield Wednesday. The men from the West Coast of England have been in fine fettle this season and look like early contenders for promotion. Bristol, on the other hand, have started this season like a house on fire after finishing last season in 18th position – 12 points clear of the drop zone. Norwich appear to be one of the most well-balanced sides in the league and should have very little issue bursting Bristol’s bubble. Get on at 8/10.
Wednesday 17 August
Cardiff 9/10 | Draw 47/20 | Blackburn 3/1
I’m not really banking on Cardiff playing well here. I’m looking more at how poor Blackburn have been this season. Without really strengthening in the off-season, they brought in serial loser, Owen Coyle to oversee the sinking of the ship. Two massive defeats have left the Ewood Park faithful dreading what’s to come. Their trip to Wales will likely end in defeat – climb on Cardiff at 9/10.
This quad works out to 10.34/1 - that means you could pocket a cool R1075 if you stake R100 on the above choices.
