Race 2: MAMBO(2)
Jockey: Anton MARCUS – Trainer: Duncan HOWELLS
As expected, MAMBO flopped on the polytrack last time but his form proves his worth on the grass and he can quickly make amends today. It comes as little surprise that Marcus retains the ride on the son of Mambo In Seattle who could take a power of beating on his peak showing. He jumps from another good draw.
Race 4: ANGEL LANDING(14)
Jockey: Diego DE GOUVEIA – Trainer: Paul LAFFERTY
ANGEL LANDING was completely unfancied when he posted an eye-catching debut over this c & d, four weeks ago. He was slow into stride and understandably raced green but finished well for 2nd behind an easy winner. The son of Bold Silvano, in turn, finished narrowly ahead of a form runner and would have come on with that experience. He is obviously an above-average sort who should make natural improvement today.
Race 9: SHOGUN(8)Jockey: Sean VEALE – Trainer: Dennis DRIER
The lightly raced four-year old gelding SHOGUN has improved smartly with each effort and he produced an excellent handicap debut effort over this c & d, six weeks ago. The Dennis Drier inmate had some excuses on that occasion but he still challenged strongly when going down a head to PANZA (0.5kg worse off) in a thrilling finish. The son of Dynasty was returning from a 19 week break so he will strip much fitter and clearly has more scope for improvement.
Race 10: SUBLIME CODE(1)
Jockey: Diego DE GOUVEIA – Trainer: Alistar GORDON
SUBLIME CODE clearly prefers the grass and he holds a solid record over this c & d. He would have needed his comeback run in stronger company last time and should be fitter now. The lightly raced son of Warm White Night was docked two pounds after that performance and he could take full advantage of that today. The Alistair Gordon inmate will benefit from a 2.5kgs apprentice claim.
