Winning Form Best Bets

Race 1: OLI MIRANDA(1)
Race 2: RODNEY(1)
Race 4: KENNY TRIX(3)
Race 5: COCK-A-HOOP(4)

Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: RODNEY(1)
Jockey: Grant VAN NIEKERK – Trainer: Candice BASS-ROBINSON

RODNEY
had some excuses when he was slightly below-par at pinnacle level last time but he is extremely well treated at the weights today and should take a power of beating on his peak showing. The grey gelding is still in good form and he drops significantly in class here. He had one smart appearance on this track. The three-year olds have a huge task at the weights but are naturally progressive and may follow the top selection home.

Race 5: COCK-A-HOOP(4)
Jockey: Richard FOURIE – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

COCK-A-HOOP
has produced some smart maiden form and he is by far the first pick of the raced runners in this contest. The Snaith inmate showed good pace when he was 2nd best in his comeback run over this distance in yielding going recently and he will be fitter now. He should easily overcome his wide draw on his track debut, provided he jumps on terms, and has further room for improvement.

Race 6: CANDALEEYAH(2)
Jockey: Heavelon VAN DER HOVEN – Trainer: Mike ROBINSON

CANDALEEYAH
caused a major stir when she finished well to beat a strong field over six furlongs in yielding conditions at Kenilworth, two weeks ago. The daughter of Argonaut is way better over this minimum distance, as her record proves, and she probably escaped with just a three pound penalty. She drops in class over an ideal track & trip and could take some beating on her peak run today.

TOP BET

Race 7: TAFFETY TART(9)
Jockey: Grant VAN NIEKERK – Trainer: Candice BASS-ROBINSON

Trainer Candice Robinson has cleverly placed her filly TAFFETY TART in this allowance plate and the daughter of Trippi is extremely well-weighted, judging on official ratings. The four-year old bay filly showed lots of promise last season but she was just a few lengths behind her top class stable companion Silver Mountain in back-to-back graded features at Kenilworth. Her KZN winter stint didn’t go according to plan but she should thrive again on home ground and can bounce back to best on her seasonal debut. She should take a power of beating with just 51.5kgs on her back.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 9: RUSSIAN SPEED(11)
Jockey: Greg CHEYNE – Trainer: Eric SANDS

The three-year-old I TRAVEL LIGHT appears a top prospect in the making and he comes here searching for a hat-trick of victories. He will definitely find things tougher at the weights, particularly from his poor draw but the Ramsden inmate has lots of room for improvement and he still deserves lots of respect. The formline of his last win is well-represented here and the weight reversal and good barrier position for the four-year old colt RUSSIAN SPEED makes him a big threat. The Eric Sands inmate is better than his record over this trip indicates and he made late headway from wide draws in his last two outings, the penultimate of which was on this tight circuit. He finished just over three lengths adrift of the former last time but is now 4kgs to the good and jockey Greg Cheyne retains the ride. The bay colt continues to slide in the merit ratings.
