Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 1: DIVA FEVER(1)
Jockey: Grant VAN NIEKERK – Trainer: Adam MARCUS

A competitive opening maiden event over five furlongs with many speedsters well drawn which should ensure a suicidal pace. The runner that will be most suited to the likely cracking gallop is the four- year chestnut filly DIVA FEVER from the Adam Marcus yard. The daughter of King’s Apostle was below-par in soft conditions in her last two runs but she showed promise prior to that. She ran on smartly for 2nd behind subsequent winner Twinkle Toes in her second outing and she could be a major contender in the desired track conditions. The top rating is well drawn at gate 3 and top jockey Grant Van Niekerk will nurse her around the turn on her track debut.

Race 3: STRATHDON(16)

Jockey: Richard FOURIE – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

This is a competitive start to the Pick 6 but the value could lie with STRATHDON from the Justin Snaith yard. This three-year-old chestnut colt caught the eye on debut over seven furlongs at Kenilworth three weeks ago. The son of Silvano was squeezed badly at the start but he made up the ground effortlessly going into the final two furlongs. However, he eventually felt the effects of his exertions as he tired late to finish a creditable 3rd, beaten just over three lengths. His time was exactly one second slower than LOGAN’s over the same c & d a few hours earlier but the top rating would have come on appreciably from that experience and today’s extra furlong should be right up his alley. He is the mount of the stable jockey and is drawn in midfield on his track debut.

Race 5: VARUMBA(2)

Jockey: MJ BYLEVELD – Trainer: Vaughan MARSHALL

There are some useful performers on display in this competitive handicap but their lack of track experience is a big worry. This may hand the initiative to the fast daughter of Var, VARUMBA who won her only attempt on this circuit. The Vaughan Marshall inmate completed back-to-back wins over five furlongs at Kenilworth at conditions level prior to her 14-week break. The expensive purchase should have no problems with today’s extra furlong and she has the gate speed to overcome the worst draw of the seven campaigners. She should be involved in the finish.

TOP BET
Race 8: SEATTLE GOLD(5)

Jockey: Corne OFFER – Trainer: Brett CRAWFORD

There are many form runners in this final event but SEATTLE GOLD from the Brett Crawford team could be above this field and she is a confident first choice. The well-related daughter of Sail From Seattle enjoyed the rise in distance and she caught the eye when finishing well for 3rd over seven furlongs in yielding conditions, three weeks ago. She takes on stronger now but will relish the mile and she has lots more to offer. The bay filly will be cherry-ripe on her third run back and she is well drawn on her track debut.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 4: KILRAIN(4)
Jockey: Donovan DILLON – Trainer: Candice BASS-ROBINSON

Just eight runners go to post for this intriguing handicap over a mile and the likely pacesetter could enjoy the run of the race. KILRAIN, like many of today’s rivals, represents the Star Chestnut (winner since) formline on 03/09 and most interestingly, this son of Dynasty led throughout en route to an easy c & d victory in late February. He isn’t the stable elect but can cause the upset if allowed to dictate his own terms.
