Magic Tips Best Bets

TOP BET
Race 1: CLIFTON SANDS(1)
Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

CLIFTON SANDS has recovered from the flop over a mile in June and she has posted two decent subsequent outings. The pacesetting three-year-old bay filly was collared close to home over 1300m on this track last time. That was a very creditable performance, especially as the daughter of Jay Peg cast a shoe in running. She has further scope for progress and today’s slight drop in distance should prove ideal for her. It is most encouraging that veteran jockey Fortune retains the ride on the Snaith inmate.

Race 3: BONUS POINT(9)
Jockey: Juan-Paul VAN DER MERVE – Trainer: Gavin SMITH

The three-year-old BONUS POINT is well-bred and he relished the extra ground when posting a career-best effort on this course, four weeks ago. The son of Mogok finished strongly and was pipped at the line over 1900m that day. He was in turn, exactly two lengths clear of the battling maiden COUNT’S QUEST whom he meets on identical weight terms and the Gavin Smith inmate has obvious room for improvement. He should appreciate today’s extra 300m and judging from the betting support in his last run, the bay colt is obviously displaying decent work back home.

Race 4: PATAUDI(4)
Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

The Snaith/Fortune combination could again have a big say in the outcome of this opening leg of the jackpot. The pair team up with the five-year-old bay gelding PATAUDI who seems a track specialist. The son of Tiger Ridge has posted all three of his career wins on this surface, the latest over this c & d four weeks ago. That earned him a three-pound penalty but he has more to offer at this level and he jumps from a better draw today.

Race 5: GREEN LANTERN(1)
Jockey: Greg CHEYNE – Trainer: Alan GREED

The classy unbeaten colt GREEN LANTERN has produced two smart victories down the straight on the grass and he faces his stiffest test today. He was flawless when cruising past his handicap rivals under a big mass second time out and looks a quality prospect in the making. The son of Gimmethegreenlight should relish today’s extra furlong but he tries the turn and the polytrack for the first time. Those are serious concerns, particularly as he is renowed for jumping slowly but the Greeff inmate oozes class and is still selected to reel off the hat-trick. Of course, it is a major plus that he now faces his own age group.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:
Race 7: DAME HAMILTON(8)

Jockey: Richard FOURIE – Trainer: Yvette BREMNER

DAME HAMILTON has progressed smartly since relocating to this province and she had a bright polytrack debut at novice level in her comeback run, four weeks ago. She finished strongly for a close 3rd over the minimum distance that day and the effort clearly indicated that the daughter of Rock Of Rochelle is searching for further. Her conditioner has duly obliged and the bay filly should relish this extra two furlongs. She will be fitter and top jockey Richard Fourie rides from the best draw. The four-year-old filly still has lots of room for improvement.
