South Africa NFD: Week 4 Preview

 NFD: Week-4-Preview

Our football scribe previews week four of the South African NFD, which resumes on Friday.

Here we go again! Another week of NFD football goes by, but not to worry, we still have 27 rounds left to make us some cash. Apart from Sunday’s encounter between Thanda Royal Zulu and Witbank Spurs being cancelled due to a torrential downpour making conditions unplayable, the rest of the weekend contests went according to schedule.

It what was always going to be a nail-biting top of the table clash, as Mthatha Bucks and AmaZulu settled for a share of the spoils in a highly entertaining 2-2 draw. As a result, the latter remains top of the standings, but Thanda Royal Zulu have that all important game in hand. Let’s find out below what’s good on the betting front this week.

Friday 23 September

Stellenbosch FC 15/10 | Draw 2/1 | Royal Eagles 18/10
Stellenbosch and Royal Eagles will be looking to make it two wins on the bounce on Friday afternoon. Following their horrid start to the season – losing back-to-back matches – Stellenbosch did well to clinch their first win of the campaign, winning 2-0 at Magesi FC.

Royal Eagles earned their maiden victory of the 2016/17 campaign in emphatic fashion, thrashing Cape Town All Stars 6-0 on home soil. In the last 10 meetings between the sides, Vasco have won four (all at home), Royal Eagles have won five (all at home) and the teams have played out to one stalemate.

It looks as though home advantage plays a vital role in this matchup, but after the way Royal Eagles hammered Cape Town All Stars, a draw looks the likely outcome.

Cape Town All Stars 2/1 | Draw 21/10 | Santos 13/10
Cape Town All Stars have made a dreadful start to the season, suffering three defeats in as many matches, scoring a measly three goals and conceding nine times, including a 6-2 loss at the hands of Royal Eagles last time out.

Santos have been inconsistent but still look the strong team. They have won back-to-back matches away to Cape Town All Stars, bagging six goals and conceding only once. The away win is on the cards.

Saturday 24 September

FC Cape Town 1/1 | Draw 22/10 | Real Kings FC 5/2
FC Cape Town and Real Kings will do battle on Saturday afternoon. The African Beasts are coming off a well-deserved goalless draw away to University of Pretoria and will be eager to build on that precious point.

Real Kings have made a decent start to life in the NFD, as they remain unbeaten after three matches, with two draws and a hard-fought 2-1 home win against Mbombela United last time out. This is one of those matchups that can go either way, but I’m backing FC Cape Town to make home advantage count against the new boys on the block.

Black Leopards 8/10 | Draw 23/10 | Milano United 33/10
Black Leopards will take on Milano United at the Thohoyandou Stadium. Lidoda Duvha are coming off an excellent 2-1 victory away to Santos, whilst the Kinnes earned an impressive 2-1 home win against Jomo Cosmos.

Black Leopards have won three of the last four home meetings against Milano United and are tipped to build on that here.

AmaZulu 1/1 | Draw 22/10 | University of Pretoria 5/2
AmaZulu and University of Pretoria should make for a cracking encounter. A win for either team will see them possibly climb to the top of the standings. AmaZulu have been excellent with two wins from three matches and their opponents have been just as good.

AmaZulu are looking slightly sharper on the field and they have a good home record against AmaTuks. The home win is well worth a strike.

Witbank Spurs 8/10 | Draw 23/10 | Magesi FC 33/10
Witbank Spurs will play host to newly-promoted Magesi FC. Siyavutha were excellent at home last season, claiming nine wins from a possible 15 matches. The newcomers are coming off a disappointing 2-0 home defeat against Stellenbosch and will need to be at the top of their game if they are to get any result here.

Magesi FC might give a good account of themselves in the first half, but Witbank should run away with it in the second. The home win is the way to go here.

Mbombela United 15/10 | Draw 2/1 | Thanda Royal Zulu 18/10
Mbombela United have made a struggling start to the season, falling to two defeats in three matches, whilst Thanda Royal Zulu have been impressive with consecutive victories, scoring four goals and conceding just once.

Nonetheless, Thanda Royal Zulu were horrendous on their travels last term, managing just one victory from 15 games. The sides are tipped to share the spoils.

Sunday 25 September

Jomo Cosmos 22/10 | Draw 21/10 | Mthatha Bucks 12/10
Jomo Cosmos have made a disappointing start to the campaign and are yet to claim their first victory. They fell to a 2-1 defeat last time out at the hands of Milano United.

Mthatha Bucks on the other hand, will be looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the season, which includes two wins and a draw from three matches. However, Cosmos are never down for too long, especially in the NFD. Back them to return to winning ways at a valuable 22/10.

TREBLE @ 15/1
Royal Eagles Win 18/10

Witbank Spurs Win 8/10
Jomo Cosmos Win 22/10
