Magic Tips Best Bets

Top Bet
Jockey: Gavin LERENA - Trainer: Stanley FERREIRA

There are numerous form runners in this gigantic field but ELUSIVE STRIKE could be the betting proposition of the day. She was quietly fancied when she dead-heated for 2nd with THREE KINGDOMS on debut over this c & d a fortnight ago but the form doesn't tell the true story. The three-year-old moved through menacingly but was severely cramped at a crucial stage. She then recovered with aplomb and caught the eye when running on smartly at the wire. That first experience is sure to have brought her on immensely and the daughter of Elusive Fort should make natural improvement. It comes as little surprise that top jockey Gavin Lerena retains the ride and the pair should go very close to winning.

Race 3: DOOSRA(10)
Jockey: Gavin LERENA - Trainer: Johan JANSE VAN VUUREN

There are many first timers in this field and the betting market needs to be closely monitored. However, it may take a 'special one' to lower the colours of the top selection DOOSRA who had an impressive debut over this c & d, three weeks ago. The well-related son of Captain Al attracted strong betting support and he challenged strongly in the closing stages after being slow into stride but failed narrowly to a highly rated fellow newcomer from the powerful Mike de Kock stable. The bay colt should make his experience count.

Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE - Trainer: Louis GOOSEN

The Louis Goosen yard holds a strong hand in this pinnacle stakes event with their renowned pairing of DOING IT FOR DAN and TRIP TEASE. The pair renew their rivalry and it was the former who was given a top class ride by Fortune as he won a similar contest going away over this trip at Turffontein, earlier this season. He is 1.5kgs worse off with his stable companion but clearly enjoyed his jockey's 'soft hands' and he can follow-up.

Race 9: RIVARINE(2)

Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE - Trainer: Michael AZZIE
The bay colt RIVARINE clearly appears to have trained on this term and he was super-impressive in his winning seasonal debut on the classic track, two weeks ago. The son of Var should continue to progress in his career and he should take a power of beating despite being slightly out at the weights with the fast filly, WRECKING BALL, who is best in on official ratings. The daughter of Great Britain has shown plenty of class thus far and she may have felt the effects of her exertions in KZN when producing a below-par seasonal debut on her return to the Highveld, three weeks ago.

Race 7: IRISH PRIDE(8)

Jockey: Gavin LERENA - Trainer: Johan JANSE VAN VUUREN

The most eagerly awaited contest thus far this campaign has finally arrived and it features history in the making as a gigantic field of 28 entrants will be spread across the turf of the inside and outside tracks. The obvious concerns will be where the favourable going is but judging from the last meeting held here, the final event proved that a victory can be achieved on either side. IRISH PRIDE is selected to uncover the lottery with top jockey Gavin Lerena in the saddle. The Ideal World gelding has always suggested that he is way above-average and he won his last c & d effort easier than the margin indicates. He still has plenty more to offer.
