Race 2: RIVARINE(3)
Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE – Trainer: Michael AZZIE

RIVARINE disappointed in soft conditions in a mile feature on the last day of July but the classy Var colt had some excellent prior form, including being placed in Grade 1 company. His record on the Highveld has been impressive and the Mike Azzie inmate could be worth following this campaign. He is slightly out at the weights on his seasonal debut today but gets red-hot jockey Andrew Fortune in the saddle and still merits the utmost respect.

Race 4: FRENCH LEGEND(13)

Jockey: Piere STRYDOM – Trainer: Sean TARRY

FRENCH LEGEND was rested for twelve weeks after she produced a top quality debut over six furlongs down the straight. She was quietly fancied in the betting market that day and she ran on smartly, only to be denied victory by half a length at the wire. The Sean Tarry inmate would have come on appreciably from that experience and she should be stronger now. Her pedigree indicates that she will relish the extra 250m and she is well drawn on her first venture around the turn. Moreover, she gets top jockey Strydom to nurse her along.

Race 5: IN THE WEB(4)

Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE – Trainer: Gary ALEXANDER

The three-year-old IN THE WEB is improving with each outing and she caught the eye when running on well for 3rd over shorter on her handicap debut, two weeks ago. The mile suits her much better though and the daughter of Brave Tin Soldier romped to an easy maiden victory over this distance in her penultimate start. She has good scope for improvement and today’s longer run-in will suit her better.

Race 7: MALALA(1)

Jockey: Deon SAMPSON – Trainer: Brian WIID

MALALA had a decent performance on her track debut and she confirmed that promise with a career-best effort over eleven furlongs, three weeks ago. The lightly raced daughter of Judpot set the pace and stayed on for 2nd behind Flying Dream. She was in turn exactly one length ahead of the 3rd placed finisher CAITLIN’S ANSWER and although the pair meet on identical weight terms today, the top rating has more scope for progress and she will prefer this slightly shorter trip.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:
Race 8: ROYAL MASTER(3)
Jockey: Ryan MUNGER – Trainer: Bill HUMAN

ROYAL MASTER continues to perform well on the Highveld and the Kimberley resident can get it right today. He stayed on well for 2nd behind Turffontein inner track specialist VICTORIOUS ROYAL over nine furlongs last time but is now 1.5kgs better off with his conqueror and could turn things around. The Jet Master gelding had an eye-catching performance on his track debut over a mile and this ten furlongs is right up his alley.
