Magic Tips Best Bets

TOP BET
Race 4: PACIFIC SPIRIT(1)
Jockey: A’manga KHUMALO – Trainer: Yvette BREMNER

The classy and highly rated PACIFIC SPIRIT may have issues as he returns from a long 31-week absence. However, he built on that highly promising debut in the ‘Mother City’ as the local colt thrashed his juvenile fields in his last two efforts on this course. His fitness can only be taken on trust but the son of Sail From Seattle is well in at the weights on official ratings and should take a power of beating in this line-up. His conditioner’s patience should be rewarded and Khumalo knows the colt very well. The only other unbeaten runner in this event is definitely an unknown as he is raiding from the Cape.

Race 6: ACACIAWOOD(5)
Jockey: Grant VAN NIEKERK – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

ACACIAWOOD is best in at the weights on official ratings and the Cape raider has experience on this track. She ran on again for 3rd behind the local speedster SUMMER CRUISE over five furlongs in May and now meets that rival on 7kgs better terms. Furthermore, she had two fair subsequent runs back in the ‘Mother City’ and can easily reverse the form with the latter over today’s extra furlong. The Snaith inmate prefers racing down the straight and she has strong claims.

Race 8: WITHOUT PERMISSION(6)
Jockey: Greg CHEYNE – Trainer: Alan GREEFF

WITHOUT PERMISSION caught the eye when he ran on well for 3rd on his local sprint debut on the polytrack, three weeks ago and he will be fitter now. The Greeff inmate will also prefer today’s extra furlong, the switch to the grass and racing on these handicap terms. Furthermore, his stablemate Rogue Runner boosted the formline when winning subsequently after finishing runner-up in the event referred to above. This imported gelding has cracked the best draw on his track debut and must be strongly considered.

Race 9: ONE LOVE(7)

Jockey: S’manga KHUMALO – Trainer: Dorrie SHAM

A competitive low-key fillies and mares handicap ends the day’s proceedings and normally extreme caution is advised, but this time there could be a serious betting proposition in the form of ONE LOVE from the Dorrie Sham yard. The imported filly has done little wrong since arriving in the province and she firmly settled earlier doubts of whether she is a polytrack specialist, by slamming her maiden field over this c & d, earlier this campaign. She has finished close-up in recent performances but wasn’t given the best ride last time out and hardly surprisingly, top jockey S’manga Khumalo has been summoned aboard the chestnut filly. The four-year-old is drawn best of all and she can get that deserved second career win.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 7: KRAMBAMBULI(4)

Jockey: Aldo DOMEYER – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

A big and competitive field lines-up for the renewal of the Grade 3 Algoa Cup where a few survivors of last year’s blanket finish are present. The narrow first verdict goes to the visitor KRAMBAMBULI who had an eye-catching comeback run over shorter in the ‘Mother City’ last time out. He will be fitter now and of course, the son of Black Minnaloushe challenged strongly when going down narrowly into 4th in this event twelve months ago.
