Italian Serie A: Week 8 Preview

Serie-A-Preview

Our writer previews round eight of the 2016/17 Italian Serie A season.

With seven games into the season, defending champions Juventus remain at top of the Serie A standings. The Old Lady has been at the summit since gameweek three and at 2/9 are out-and-out favourites to win a sixth consecutive Scudetto. Their main title rivals, Napoli and Roma, will square off on Saturday afternoon in a contest expected to go down to the wire.

Further down the log, Crotone are rooted to the foot of the table, with Empoli and Palermo joining them in the relegation zone. Nothing is written in stone. It’s still early days and plenty can still change at this point. So stay tuned for our weekly Italian Serie A preview and make sure you get on all our exclusive value bets and top tips.

Saturday 15 October

Napoli 1/1 | Draw 26/10 | Roma 51/20

The Serie A’s blockbuster of round eight pits title-chasers Napoli up against Roma. The Latter has made a terrific start to the campaign and are now second to only Juventus on the table. The Azzurri have a 100% win record at home, scoring nine goals and conceding just three times.

Roma too, have been brilliant on home soil, winning all four matches. Nonetheless, their away form has been dreadful and as a result, they are without a victory on the road, scoring three goals in as many games and conceding double that amount.

Napoli have won four of the last five home games against Roma, scoring 10 goals and conceding just once. Get on the home win + Both Teams To Score at a valuable 24/10.

Pescara 31/20 | Draw 9/4 | Sampdoria 7/4
Pecara are placed 17th on the log, flirting with relegation and are winless in their last five matches, suffering three defeats. Their opponents, Sampdoria, have been in horrid form as well, going down four times in their last five games.

The last three meetings between these teams have produced a staggering 15 goals. The best bet here would be to get on the Totals, with the Over 2.5 Goals market looking good value for money at 9/10.

Juventus 1/5 | Draw 11/2 | Udinese 25/2
Juventus will play host to Udinese in the final Serie A encounter on Saturday evening. The betting suggests Juventus should oust their opponents and with the form both teams are in, I don’t see why not. Mind you, Udinese did upset the applecart with a 1-0 win at the Juventus Stadium last season.

Juventus are top of the table with six wins from seven matches, scoring 15 goals and conceding four times. Udinese on the other hand, lie 16th on the log, and have lost two of their three travels, scoring once and conceding five times.

The former has lost back-to-back games and look no match for the defending champions. Back Juventus on the Halftime/Fulltime Double Chance at 6/10.

Sunday 16 October

Fiorentina 7/10 | Draw 26/10 | Atalanta 38/10

Fiorentina and Atalanta will open Sunday’s proceedings with a lunchtime kick-off. The Viola have struggled to maintain winning form, but have, however, impressed on home soil as they remain unbeaten with two wins from three matches.

Atalanta have been inconsistent themselves, but prior to the international break, La Dea had won back-to-back matches. I still don’t see them getting one over Fiorentina, who have won the last nine meetings against them. The home win is definitely one of the best bets of the weekend.

Genoa 7/10 | Draw 26/10 | Empoli 4/1

Genoa will be looking to pick up where they left off before the international break after edging Bologna 1-0 away from home. They will take on Empoli, who are currently placed second from bottom of the log with five defeats from seven matches, including three on the trot.

At 7/10 I would normally jump on the home win, but judging from past meetings between the sides, form goes out the window when these teams lock horns. The last 11 meetings have seen Under 2.5 Goals and I suggest you follow the pattern and get on at 15/20.

Inter Milan 5/10 | Draw 7/2 | Cagliari 5/1
Inter Milan have blown hot and cold thus far, but that could just be from their exertions in the Europa League. Cagliari come to town, and in a bit of form, I might add. They have won two matches on the bounce, but both victories coming on home soil.

Nerazzurri can boast the fact that they are the only team to get the better of Juventus thus far, whilst the Rossoblu have lost all three of their games on the road, scoring twice and conceding nine times. The home win is the way to go.

Sassuolo 9/20 | Draw 36/10 | Crotone 6/1
Sassuolo have lost four of their last six matches but still come into this matchup as heavy favourites to claim maximum points. They are only priced up so short due to the fact that Crotone are the only team yet to bag a win, suffering six defeats from seven matches, scoring five goals and conceding 16 times.

Sassuolo have won the last four meetings at home against Crotone, scoring eight goals and conceding just once. Back the home team on the ‘Handicap at 11/10.

Lazio 5/10 | Draw 31/10 | Bologna 52/10
Lazio will welcome Bologna to the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday afternoon. The Biancocelesti have been impressive of late with two home wins on the spin, scoring five goals without conceding.

Bologna suffered a 1-0 home loss against Genoa last time out and will be eager to bounce back in a positive manner. But their away form leaves a lot to be desired, as they remain without a win on the road, scoring just three times and conceding nine goals.

Despite Lazio’s excellent home form at present and Bologna’s slight slump in recent weeks, I still feel a tight affair is on the cards. Nevertheless, the Biancocelesti are unbeaten in the last six meetings against Bologna and are tipped to come good.

Chievo 39/20 | Draw 43/20 | AC Milan 15/10
Chievo and AC Milan are currently tied on 13 points, making this encounter all the more eye-catching. Gialloblu have been excellent in recent weeks with three wins from their last four matches, whilst Milan have been just as impressive.

On the form guide, not much separates the two, but if you look at the head-to-head difference between the sides, Milan are on another level. The Rossoneri are undefeated in the last 19 meetings against Chievo, including 16 victories. The away win should be backed.

Monday 17 October

Palermo 29/10 | Draw 24/10 | Torino 19/20

Relegation-threatened Palermo are winless on their ground, suffering three losses from as many games without scoring and conceding five times. Torino have been outstanding of late, claiming back-to-back home wins against Roma and Fiorentina.

The away team has won the last two meetings between the sides and look well worth a punt to make it three successive wins against their opponents.
