Race 4: LALA(1)
Race 7: GUNNER(1)
Magic Tips Best Bets
Race 1: LIL RED ROOSTER(5)
Jockey: Warren KENNEDY – Trainer: Gavin VAN ZYL
There are numerous first timers in this big field & the betting market should be carefully monitored. That said, the raced runners could still hold the key and LIL RED ROOSTER could be the right one on his seasonal debut. The speedy gelding made big improvement when he was outrun late into 2nd by subsequent winner Buffalo Soldier over this c & d in May. He hasn’t raced for 23 weeks since but would have strengthened during that time and should have further progress to come.
Race 2: RAINBOWINTHESKY(14)
Jockey: Brandon LERENA – Trainer: Duncan HOWELLS
The Duncan Howells yard holds a very strong hand in this event and RAINBOWINTHESKY drops in class after her fair debut against winners in a minor feature. The speedy daughter of Muhtafal weakened late over the six furlongs that day but she would have come on with that experience and is certain to love this minimum trip. She should make natural improvement.
Race 3: EXPRESSO MARTINI(9)
Jockey: Brandon LERENA – Trainer: Paul GADSBY
EXPRESSO MARTINI enjoyed the step-up in trip and the polytrack when she made smart improvement, second time out. The well-related daughter of Ideal World challenged strongly before going down half a length at the wire over this distance and it is worth noting that she attracted outside betting support that day. The 3rd placed finisher Onesie boosted that formline with a subsequent victory and this bay filly should build on that progress.
TOP BET
Race 7: GUNNER(1)
Jockey: Brandon LERENA – Trainer: Paul GADSBY
The top class GUNNER blossomed during the winter and he finished strongly to capture the Grade 1 over the mile on Gold Cup Day. He concedes chunks of weight to his rivals on his seasonal debut but is still best in on official ratings and should take a power of beating. The son of Gimmethegreenlight would have strengthened during his 11-week break and he should be followed this campaign.
VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:
Race 4: QUEEN’S BEACH(10)
Jockey: Muzi YENI – Trainer: Doug CAMPBELL
This is a tricky fillies and mares handicap and caution must be exercised. The lightly weighted QUEEN’S BEACH takes a steep rise in class but she did impress in her fluent last c & d when trying blinkers for the first time. The daughter of King Of Kings has her issues as she returns from another break but she probably escaped with the minimum two pound penalty and she has room for progress. She will again wear the headgear and now gets the services of visiting in-form jockey Muzi Yeni.
