Magic Tips Best Bets

Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE - Trainer: Gary ALEXANDER

SHA-BOOM SHA-BOOM has improved smartly with each of her three starts and she ran on well for 2nd behind a highly rated sort over this trip on the classic track, two weeks ago. She has track experience which will be crucial and the half-sister to the top-class five-time winner Kangaroo Jack (runs in race 7) should continue to progress. The daughter of Lateral jumps from gate 3 and top jockey Fortune partners her for the first time. There are two newcomers who should be closely monitored in the betting exchanges.

Jockey: Aldo DOMEYER - Trainer: Geoff WOODRUFF

RACETHEGREENLIGHT made a promising debut during the winter and he would have strengthened during his 12-week break. The Gimmethegreenlight gelding quickly recovered from a slow start and he showed raw pace before finishing 2nd best behind an experienced sort over the 1160m at Turffontein that day. He should make natural improvement and today's fast five furlongs on this track could be ideal for the Woodruff inmate who jumps from a decent draw.

Race 3: DOLPHIN(3)
Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE - Trainer: Robbie SAGE

DOLPHIN clearly enjoys the 'soft hands' of former champion jockey Fortune and the pair have struck up a fine winning partnership. The Trippi gelding also has an affinity for this track & trip and he drew off to record an impressive last victory over a similar handicap field, six weeks ago. That earned him a hefty seven-pound penalty but the Robbie Sage inmate still has more to offer at this level and he can follow-up. He will need all of his top jockey's expertise though, as he negotiates an awkward draw.

Race 3: DOLPHIN(3)
Jockey: Anton MARCUS - Trainer: Mike DE KOCK

Top jockey Anton Marcus has come up to Gauteng for just two rides today and the confident first selection in this event, CHARMING CHARLIE, is one of them. The Mike de Kock inmate was having his second outing inside six days when he stayed on for 2nd over this c & d on his Highveld debut, just under one month ago. He made a fair debut in KZN prior to that. He deserved the short four-week break and it is worth noting that the 3rd placed finisher Flying Fool boosted that formline with a subsequent victory. The son of Greys Inn has plenty of improvement still to come and he jumps from a good draw today.

Race 8: TIGER FLAME(1)
Jockey: Sherman BROWN - Trainer: Ormond FERRARIS

This is a tricky low-key fillies and mares handicap and the likely lack of a decent gallop makes it that much tougher. The top weight TIGER FLAME could profit from the sedate pace though and the Ormond Ferraris inmate represents decent each/way value. The imported mare is versatile and she has placed in stronger company in her last few runs. She appeared in need of her comeback effort over a mile behind Fort Ember recently and will strip fitter today. The five-year-old has nearly four lengths to find on CAMBRIDGE CHOIR but she meets that rival on 2.5kgs better terms and can get much closer this time around. The shorter distance could swing things in her favour. The latter is a track specialist who bounced back to form despite not striding out in that latest effort. That earned her a rather hefty four-pound penalty and this slight drop in trip is a worry. The Joey Soma inmate seems to prefer a solid gallop and she has a tough task in this field.
