Top Bet
Race 1: RAYDAVERIC(11)
Jockey: Gavin LERENA – Trainer: Alec LAIRD

RAYDAVERIC
is clearly showing good work back home as he was heavily supported on his promising debut over six furlongs on the classic track late last month. He quickly recovered from a slow start that day and challenged strongly in the closing stages before going down a neck behind a fellow newcomer. The Seventh Rock colt was in turn just over two lengths clear of the 3rd placed finisher Enchanted Rock who had the benefit of experience. That effort would have brought the Alec Laird inmate on appreciably and today’s extra furlong should be right up his alley.

Race 2: CHILI CON CARNE(11)

Jockey: Muzi YENI – Trainer: Lucky HOUDALAKIS

This is a very competitive and intriguing affair which should yield an exciting but favourable outcome. The three-year-old CHILI CON CARNE has produced two fair runs in open company this season but he wasn’t given the best of rides when attempting the mile two weeks ago. He raced wide in the slow run contest but showed his eye-catching burst of speed before tiring in the latter stages. Still, he wasn’t disgraced in that equally strong handicap & perhaps the mile is just out of reach for now. The son of Just As Well has his peak showing today and this shorter trip should suit him perfectly. In fact, he crushed his maiden rivals in his only c & d attempt. He gets top lightweight jockey Muzi Yeni in the saddle and can make amends.

Race 3: ROUGE ALLURE(13)
Jockey: Calvin NGCOBO – Trainer: Stephen MOFFATT

It is easy to see why ROUGE ALLURE is rated by her stable. She was supported on her fair sprint debut on this track and then built on that when running on for a good 2nd behind the highly rated easy debut winner, Always A Lady in a big field over this c & d, three weeks ago. The daughter of Kahal finished narrowly in front of the heavily supported favourite, Elusive Strike, that day and she should continue to progress. The chestnut filly should give another very good account of herself here.

Race 6: ARISSA(6)

Jockey: Piere STRYDOM – Trainer: Alec LAIRD

ARISSA
is most effective when sprinting and she bounced back to form with a cracking last display in a KZN feature over today’s trip. She was rather unfortunate to have been pipped into 2nd that day but certainly proved her worth. The daughter of Silvano would have strengthened during her 12-week break and she has plenty of scope for progress. She had placed in a Highveld feature prior to embarking on the winter campaign at the coast. She faces older rivals for the first time in her career but should be equal to the task at hand on her handicap debut and can go close here.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:
Race 4: TRADING PROFIT(8)
Jockey: Karl ZECHNER – Trainer: Michael AZZIE

An intriguing top division handicap where most of the dozen entrants have gone quite a while without a victory. The first selection TRADING PROFIT is one of them and this son of Toreador has posted four inexplicable performances since his smashing Pinnacle Stakes win over older rivals, Judicial & French Navy late in February this year. However, he changed stables after the triumph and stepped right up into Grade 1 class on three of those occasions. The four-year-old deserved his long break through the winter and there some signs of life when he had his seasonal debut over shorter a fortnight ago. The Mike Azzie charge was making late headway that day and he will strip fitter now. He should certainly prefer racing on today’s handicap terms over an ideal distance and could bounce back to form with his handy galloping mass. He placed behind the top class Abashiri in his only effort on this track.
