Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: STREAK OF SILVER(4)
Jockey: Greg CHEYNE – Trainer: Eric SANDS

There are mostly small fields on today’s card and with the pace being the issue in many of those events, things should get very interesting. Just seven entrants line-up for this competitive handicap over as many furlongs. STREAK OF SILVER won’t mind a likely sedate gallop and this is his best trip. The four-year-old gelding had some smart form earlier this year before coming unstuck in the three-year-old features over further. His comeback run was fair despite him easing late behind subsequent winner Winter Prince over this trip at Durbanville. The 3rd placed finisher Table Bay boosted the formline with a crunching win at feature level subsequently and the Eric Sands inmate will be fitter today. He deserves huge claims in this contest.

Top Bet
Race 3: WHISPERING LIGHT(1)
Jockey: Richard FOURIE – Trainer: Harold CRAWFORD

This maiden contest could also be run at a sedate gallop and the overdue maiden winner WHISPERING LIGHT looks set to benefit most. The bay filly has all the right credentials and she was given a good ride by her jockey when pegged back late by a quality sort over this trip at Durbanville, three weeks ago. She displayed a swift turn of foot on that occasion and can certainly go one better. The three-year-old is her yard’s only representative on this card and top jockey Richard Fourie takes the ride.

Race 4: PADDINGTON(8)

Jockey: Aldo DOMEYER – Trainer: Joey RAMSDEN

The Joey Ramsden yard holds a strong hand in this staying event and PADDINGTON gets the narrow first verdict after his impressive second start. The Elusive Fort gelding took a steep rise in distance but ran on strongly for a close 3rd in yielding conditions over the ten furlongs on this track. He has half a length to find on the runner-up SEA PASS but should relish this further test of stamina and has more scope for progress.

Race 5: ICY FIRE(4)

Jockey: Greg CHEYNE – Trainer: Brett CRAWFORD

Just seven fillies contest this graduation contest over a mile and once again the lack of pace could make the final outcome very interesting. The top selection ICY FIRE has a little to do at the weights on official ratings but she races fresh after a 15-week break and she has a smart turn of foot. The four-year-old bay runs well for today’s jockey and she ended last season with some useful performances at feature level. She should go very well in this class.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 6: BELCOURT CASTLE(10)
Jockey: Akshay BALLOO – Trainer: Piet STEYN

This is yet another intriguing affair where the solitary natural pacesetter could enjoy the run of the race. The veteran gelding BELCOURT CASTLE would be a shock winner after his poor last two runs but he is better than that. He showed exactly that when only tiring late after setting the gallop in the WILLIAM LONGSWORD c & d event on 20/08. The seven-year-old is now a whopping 5.5kgs better off with his conqueror for that 1.45 lengths deficit.
