Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: BATTERSEA BRIDGE(2)
Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE – Trainer: Jacques STRYDOM

BATTERSEA BRIDGE
was outclassed at novice level recently when racing twice inside four days but he had smart maiden form prior to that. He deserved the short four week break and should go very close with top jockey Fortune in the saddle today. The three-year-old bay colt should be cherry-ripe on his third run after the layoff.

TOP BET

Race 4: CUTEY ME(5)
Jockey: Craig ZACKEY – Trainer: Renate DU PLESSIS

CUTEY ME was below-par in her first experience against male rivals recently but she will prefer facing her own sex today and can quickly bounce back to her smart prior form. She has cracked another good draw and the bay filly should go very close.

Race 7: JET EXPLORER(2)
Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

The day’s topliner may lack a decent gallop and those with a smart turn of foot could profit the most. The evergreen eight-year-old JET EXPLORER still has a decent kick and this contest could be run to suit top jockey Andrew Fortune’s mount. Of course, the pair have to make up a length and a half on their stablemate TRUE MASTER who won a good event over this c & d, four weeks ago. The top rating is 1kg to the good today. The latter kept his unbeaten track & trip record intact last time and he should pose a threat on his peak showing.

Race 8: CAPTAIN NEMO(2)

Jockey: Greg CHEYNE – Trainer: Alan GREEFF

This is another very intriguing novice contest that features some really expensive types who have struggled in their respective careers. CAPTAIN NEMO is one of them and this R2.4 million purchase is an ordinary type but he had a smart local debut when he ran on well for 2nd at a similar level over this c & d, four weeks ago. He comfortably beat his stablemate ZEVENASTIC as well as OCEANS TRIP that day and can build on that progress.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 5: KNIGHT OF GLORY(5)
Jockey: Lyle HEWITSON – Trainer: Yvette BREMNER

KNIGHT OF GLORY is the narrow first selection in this mediocre low-key handicap over seven furlongs. He took a long time to shed his maiden tag but did so on his local debut and had two decent c & d efforts subsequently. He had some excuses for his poor nine-furlong run in his penultimate start. The top selection was recently docked three pounds in his rating and he drops heavily in class today. His midfield draw is an obvious plus.
