Race 1: CHICAGO BEAT(3)
Race 5: READYFORYOURLOVE(9)
Race 7: PEARL EMBLEM(1)
Race 8: BELLA MIESQUE(9)

Magic Tips Best Bets
Race 2: COUNT PHILIP(6)
Jockey: Alec FORBES – Trainer: Leazeanne FORBES

COUNT PHILIP found ten furlongs just beyond him recently and this evening’s drop to the mile will be ideal for the Philanthropist gelding based on his smart penultimate run over this c & d. He might have finished closer but for some traffic issues in the concluding stages that night and can make amends from another good draw here.

TOP BET

Race 5: READYFORYOURLOVE(9)
Jockey: Marco VAN RENSBURG – Trainer: Johan JANSE VAN VUUREN

This is another competitive handicap featuring some useful fillies and mares but the placement of the Gauteng raider, READFORYOURLOVE, could be spot-on by his top class conditioner and the long-striding bay filly will represent good value. She has been plagued with issues in her short career but her comeback runs have been pleasing, particularly her last start when trying this distance at the Vaal. This surface could be ideal for the imported daughter of Big Brown who should use her action and low mass to great effect. She bounces from the best barrier position.

Race 6: VARIETY ROMP(4)
Jockey: Anton MARUS – Trainer: Charles LAIRD

This low-key handicap should be run at a true pace and that will favour the principle contenders, of which VARIETY ROMP and ROY’S TAXI are preferred. The former is a lightly raced Var gelding who has been restricted to this surface, possibly due to unsoundness issues, but he has come right back to his best recently. He still seems slightly ahead of the handicapper despite being raised a pound for a 2nd berth in a similar field in early December. Trainer Charles Laird’s charge is well drawn and is expected to go very close.

Race 8: MAGGIE MUGGINS(3)

Jockey: Anton MARCUS – Trainer: Alistair GORDON

MAGGIE MUGGINS
had some excuses when she perhaps still felt the effects of her exertions in a smart comeback performance after a ten-week absence. She had promising form prior to that last outing and the lightly raced daughter of Dynasty still has good improvement to come. She has plenty in her favour on her peak showing and is her yard’s only representative on the night. This trainer/jockey combo has been deadly in recent weeks.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY

Race 7: MISSIBABA(7)

Jockey: Muzi YENI – Trainer: Dennis BOSCH

The supporting topliner on the evening is yet another extremely competitive fillies & mares handicap but once again a decent tempo is expected. The lightweight MISSIBABA is still improving and she ran on smartly for 2nd behind a well ridden JUDITH ANNE over this c & d, two weeks ago. The pair tackle much stronger opposition tonight and though the top selection won’t enjoy a 4kgs apprentice allowance, she does have the expert services of in-form jockey Muzi Yeni. Furthermore, she hails from an in-form yard and still has good progress in her. The daughter of Visionaire will relish the likely decent gallop and should make her low mass count.
