Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: UPRISE(12)
Jockey: Sean VEALE - Trainer: Dennis DRIER

UPRISE was unfancied when she made a bright debut on the grass at Scottsville earlier this month. The smart-looking daughter of Black Minnaloushe ran on well for 3rd despite jumping slowly and racing green so that experience would have brought her on appreciably. Furthermore, she is bred to love this extra furlong and can make good progress if taking to this surface. She is drawn in midfield.

Jockey: Diego DE GOUVEIA - Trainer: Lezeanne FORBES

The pace should be strong in this competitive low-key handicap where JOSHUA'S ANSWER represents good each/way value from the best draw. He probably took on too much in his moderate last showing but had a string of decent prior performances, including a smart 3rd behind Snowman over a mile in his penultimate run. The chestnut gelding is at his level-best over this trip and his c & d stats reveal that much. Furthermore, he has finally cracked a good barrier position.

Race 4: ORELIA(5)
Jockey: Anthony DELPECH - Trainer: Dean KANNEMEYER

ORELIA is above-average and she had a smart maiden victory over seven furlongs on this track, three weeks ago. She was returning from a 25-week absence that evening so will strip much fitter and the daughter of Mambo In Seattle does seem ahead of the handicapper's early assessment of her. Her good draw is a major plus on her handicap debut and the mile will be right up her alley.

Race 5: CHROME BLUE(1)
Jockey: Anthony DELPECH - Trainer: Dean KANNEMEYER

The Delpech/Kannemeyer combination could be at it again here with the top weight CHROME BLUE. The Caesour gelding had a bright local debut when he finished strongly for 2nd over ten furlongs on this course in a competitive field, three weeks ago. He picked up a three-pound penalty for his troubles but should build on that progress and could stake a serious claim.

Jockey: Eric S NGWANE - Trainer: Dean KANNEMEYER

An intriguing handicap contest where the likely short-priced favourite NIGHT CIRCUS could have another tough race on his hands, particularly due to the expected sedate gallop. The Kannemeyer inmate is undoubtedly the class act of this event but the false pace cost him dearly when he only got going late over ten furlongs on this track last time and unfortunately it may be a case of deja vu. Still, his top class jockey may be forced to improvise which may be to the gelding's detriment. Enter his stable- mate IRISH DYNASTY who had lost his way completely after showing staying promise in the 'Mother City'. He has tumbled some 26 pounds in his rating and could be a huge contender on his provincial debut tonight. Furthermore, the son of Dynasty is comfortable from the front and he could certainly enjoy the run of the race. He makes his debut for his new yard and can pull off a surprise victory with a low mass.
