Race 7: HEAVENLY BLUE(1)
Race 8: TRIP TO HEAVEN(1)

Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: JUST AS I SAID(1)
Jockey: Marco VAN RENSBURG - Trainer: Lucky HOUDALAKIS

JUST AS I SAID is in excellent form and represents a lethal combination. His c & d record is solid and it must be worth noting that the 3rd placed runner of his last start Amazing Strike boosted that form- line with two subsequent wins. This four-year old gelding could prove equal to the task despite his hefty mass.

Race 5: DARING DIVA(1)
Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE - Trainer: Barend BOTES

The unbeaten DARING DIVA faces her ultimate test today as she goes beyond five furlongs for her first time in her career. She showed her class when easily beating OUTLANDER in a feature last time and that effort did indicate that this trip shouldn't pose an issue. The daughter of King Of Kings will relish the likely suicidal pace and she deserves huge respect. Her yard has turned the corner at the right time and she is the stable's only representative today.

TOP BET
Race 8: CARRY ON ALICE(13)
Jockey: S'manga KHUMALO - Trainer: Sean TARRY

The defending champion CARRY ON ALICE has had the dream prep coming into this contest as she expected- ly trotted up against much weaker in her comeback run to the Highveld last month. She ended her Cape summer campaign on a high when just lasting to beat her unlucky stablemate TRIP TO HEAVEN in the Grade 1 on Met Day. The daughter of Captain Al has always been at her best on home ground and she could still take all the beating today.

Race 9: BRAZUCA(3)
Jockey: Anthony DELPECH - Trainer: Johan JANSE VAN VUUREN

BRAZUCA has trained on since he finished just over two lengths behind the champion LEGAL EAGLE in this event last year and he could be a major force this time around. Of course he isn't favourably weighted but blinkers could make a real difference for the imported colt who hung badly after quickening smartly en route to an impressive last c & d victory at a lower-level. He meets the latter on 5.5kgs worse terms for that defeat twelve months but has undoubtedly strengthened since and should be an entirely different proposition.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 7: CAPTAIN AT SEA(5)

Jockey: Marco VAN RENSBURG - Trainer: Gareth VAN ZYL

The betting market will suggest otherwise but this renewal of the Grade 1 SA Derby isn't straight forward, particularly as there is just a solitary frontrunner who seems most likely to set a false pace. The KZN visitor CAPTAIN AT SEA is proven over this distance and his game last victory over his older stable companion Calabash under a big mass underlines his staying prowess. The son of Captain Al fought on doggedly in the soft conditions that day. Admittedly, the ratings indicate the gigantic nature of his task but most of his rivals have achieved their marks over much shorter. The bay gelding can cause a huge upset.
