Magic Tips Best Bets

TOP BET
Race 1: SO VAR(11)
Jockey: Gavin LERENA – Trainer: Gavin VAN ZYL

SO VAR has shown promise in his three runs to date and he fought back gamely for 3rd against winners over an extra furlong on this track recently. He is the clear first pick of the raced runners and merits huge claims. That said, the drop in distance is a slight issue and ultimately the son of Var may require a pair of blinkers.

Race 2: BRAVE MARY(1)
Jockey: Gunter WROGEMANN – Trainer: Paul MATCHETT

BRAVE MARY is a well-related bay filly who has shown useful potential & her last formline has already been boosted by the victory of the 10th placed finisher Kenna who beat a smart field next time out. The minimum trip and unfavourable draw are slight concerns for the daughter of Brave Tin Soldier but she is progressive and merits healthy respect.

Race 7: FOREST FOX(1)
Jockey: Gavin LERENA – Trainer: Paul PETER

FOREST FOX isn’t favourably drawn but he boasts useful and consistent form in stronger company. Most importantly though, he is effective with handy tactics and that may be required in a likely false run affair. The Dupont gelding has a good record with today’s jockey in the saddle.

Race 8: NEPHRITE(2)

Jockey: Marco VAN RENSBURG – Trainer: Lucky HOUDALAKIS

NEPHRITE found some inspired betting support but didn’t enjoy blinkers when folding badly in his poor last effort, the formline of which has worked out well. The bay gelding held his form on this track prior to that and should quickly return to form without the headgear today. He is favourably drawn in this competitive event.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 4: SHEPHERD’S DELIG(3)

Jockey: Chase MAUJEAN – Trainer: Sean TARRY

SHEPHERD’S DELIGHT is well held by a few on her dismal last showing but her poor draw is a legitimate excuse and she could be an entirely different prospect today. The bay filly is lightly raced and she had shown decent improvement when running on for 3rd in her penultimate outing over a similar trip. She finished just a neck adrift of the well-tried maiden CHARTER JET on that occasion and clearly has more scope for progress.
