TRAINER Comments:
Trainer Dean Kannemeyer: “I’m very happy with his 1900 performance. That’s what made me think of supplementing him for the July. He is well weighted and is a tough, sound and consistent horse. I won this race two years ago with Power King off a similar weight so I don’t think that he’s without a chance.”

“He has had a very good prep and he has proved his worth by winning the Track & Ball Derby and running a big race in the Greyville 1900m. I couldn’t ask much more of him.”

MAGIC TIPS (Winning Form) Comment:
This four-year old gelding has blossomed since the summer and his dead-heat for 3rd with IT’S MY TURN in the ‘1900’ brings him into this event as the pair meet on similar weight terms. The Kannemeyer charge had a hard fought recent Derby victory just two weeks ago though so his trot at the gallops was expected. The likely sedate gallop is definitely a concern for the son of Silvano but he has a handy galloping mass on his peak & is another who should be ending well.

Verdict: Top stayer with excellent form, slow pace a huge worry but top conditioner.

HOLLYWOODBETS Comments:

  • This will be jockey Warren Kennedy’s fifth ride in the Durban July. His best finish was aboard Forest Path in 2009, where he finished in 3rd place.
  • Mr Winsome will jump from the 10 stall in this year’s July. There have only been four winners from this gate, with the two most recent being Igugu (2011) and Big City Life (2009).
