TRAINER Comments:
Trainer Geoff Woodruff: “Was all at sea at Greyville when having his first run here but is bound to improve from the outing. Off a low weight should run well with Al Sahem – if he (Al Sahem) has a chance, so should Pagoda.”

“He is doing well and he is very fit. Without being over confident we are willing to take our chance.”

MAGIC TIPS (Winning Form) Comment:
Top Gauteng visitor from champion stable and his runner-up effort behind AL SAHEM in the Derby enhanced his reputation. However, he has always given the indication that he prefers a galloping circuit so his sub-standard Daily News 2000 performance on this short run-in wasn’t surprising at all. He clearly deserves his place in this field but has a huge task on this track & with an out of sorts jockey who lacks experience in this event. A minor placing is the best his connections can hope for from the son of Mogok.

Verdict: Top Gauteng visitor, prefers galloping track but would have come on from local debut.

HOLLYWOODBETS Comments:

  • Geoff Woodruff trained the back-to-back Durban July winner El Picha, who won the Durban July in 1999 and 2000.
  • Geoff Woodruff was the trainer of MASTER SABINA, who is now with the Justin Snaith yard.
  • This will be jockey Chase Maujean’s first ride in a Durban July.
  • Pagoda will jump from draw 14. Only four horses have won from this stall, with the last being El Picha’s first Durban July victory in 1999.
