Vodacom Durban July Supplementary Entries – 12 June 2017

Vodacom Durban July News - Press release - Hollywoodbets - Updates - Horse Racing

The five-year-old Judpot gelding Coral Fever, winner of Sunday’s Grade 3 Jubilee Handicap over 1 800m at Turffontein, was one of two final supplementary entries for the R4.25-million Vodacom Durban July to be run over 2 200m at Greyville on July 1.

Trained by Robbie Sage, the four-year-old gelding has won four of his 12 starts and beat a useful field that included another July hopeful, the Sean Tarry-trained Dynasty gelding Liege, that had finished fourth in the Summer Cup in his previous start.

The other final entry for the big race was the Dean Kannemeyer-trained Silvano gelding Mr Winsome that ran a top race for third place in the Grade 2 Betting World 1900 and is set to contest the Grade 3 Track & Ball Derby over 2 400m at Scottsville on Sunday.

Kannemeyer, who has won the country’s premier event with Dynasty, Eyeofthetiger and Power King, did not have an entry for the race but will be hoping that a combination of Mr Winsome’s good run in the Betting World 1900 and possible victory in the Track & Ball Derby on Sunday will earn the four-year-old and invitation to the race.

It was also announced that the Mike de Kock stable had scratched Orchid Island from the July with Silver Mountain from the Candice Bass-Robinson stable also being withdrawn.

The weights for Africa’s Greatest Horseracing Event will be published tomorrow, June 13, with the final field and barrier positions being announced at a special function at Greyville on Tuesday, June 20.

The public gallops will take place at Greyville on Thursday, June 22 from 7am.
