Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 1: GIRL IN GOLD(5)
Jockey: Keagan DE MELO - Trainer: Duncan HOWELLS

A competitive opening event which should yield an exciting finish and championship seeking trainer Duncan Howells can draw first blood with GIRL IN GOLD. This well-bred bay filly had two decent runs on the grass at Greyville recently. She is progressive and her last formline worked out well when the 6th placed entrant MAKING MIRACLES finished strongly for back-to-back seconds subsequently.

Race 3: PERFECT JAY(12)
Jockey: Anthony DELPECH - Trainer: Dean KANNEMEYER

PERFECT JAY is above-average and that showed when he produced a decent debut behind the useful Varallo over this c & d earlier this year. He was given too much to do from a wide draw over a mile second time out but was the only entrant to make inroads from way back that day. His conditioner was forced to freshen him up after he strained a muscle when carded to race mid last month but he does seem a progressive type whose class should carry him through in this contest.

Race 7: SAINT MARCO(8)
Jockey: Anton MARCUS - Trainer: Garth PULLER

SAINT MARCO has produced two fair performances on his return to this province and he is fast reaching a very competitive merit rating. The engaging of top jockey Anton Marcus suggests that his trainer fancies the chances of his four-year old gelding whose two career victories have come on this track. Th son of Antonius Pius is weighted to finish even closer to BALTIC AMBER (0.5kg worse off) on their recent c & d meeting two weeks ago.

Race 8: LOVE LYRIC(4)
Jockey: Athandiwe MGUDLWA - Trainer: Yogas GOVENDER

LOVE LYRIC found shrewd outside betting support when she just lasted to defeat WONDER WORKER (1kg better off) in a tight affair over this c & d three weeks ago. The lightly raced chestnut clearly escaped with the minimum two-pound penalty and she can still confirm the form from her good draw today. She's her jockey's only ride on the card and her good draw sways things in her favour.

Race 4: OLD EM(7)
Jockey: Eric S NGWANE - Trainer: Sean TARRY

This is a tricky and extremely competitive fillies and mares sprint featuring some classy types. The pace should be hot and 'luck in running' could be crucial in the closing stages. The top selection OLD EM has fair recent form and her display in the Grade 3 Poinsettia Stakes over this c & d in her penultimate run brings her into the equation. She may be ridden from off them this time around and her outside draw favours the Tarry inmate who will be ending her contest well. She can certainly cause the upset despite being slightly out at the weights on official ratings.
