Magic Tips Best Bets
TOP BET
Race 4: GRAF SPEE(2)
Jockey: Lyle HEWITSON – Trainer: Jurgen V/HEERDEN
GRAF SPEE has found his best form again and though 2nd best behind a runaway winner recently, he could have the measure of this moderate line-up. He was caught late on this course in his penultimate start.
Race 6: HOT AUGUST(9)
Jockey: Ryan MUNGER – Trainer: DAVID Nieuwenhuizen
The speedy HOT AUGUST most probably won’t be challenged for the early lead and he should produce a bold showing over this minimum trip after tiring late over six furlongs earlier this month. His last win came over this distanc
Race 7: SHORTSTOP(7)
Jockey: Donavan MANSOUR- Trainer: Roy MAGNER
SHORTSTOP seemed to find the extra furlong just beyond reach at the Vaal recently and will no doubt prefer sprinting today. He showed a welcome return to form when staying on for a close 3rd over this c & d in his penultimate start and was rather kindly docked two pounds in his rating after that last effort. The four-year old gelding represents very good each/way value from his neat draw.
Race 8: EL BOMBERO(2)
Jockey:  Gunter WROGEMANN- Trainer: Paul MATCHETT
The Captain Chips formline may again come up trumps here and of course the progress of Shortstop should be closely monitored in the previous event. The veteran campaigners EL BOMBERO and FLAG OF FRANCE were separated by just over half a length in favour of the former that day and the six-year old’s useful track record hands him the initiative despite the 0.5kg unfavourable weight terms. The pair are drawn best of the rest.
VALUE BET FOR TODAY:
Race 5: FRIKKIE(3)
Jockey: Karl ZECHNER– Trainer: Weiho MARWING
This is a most intriguing handicap with many of the principle contenders preferring a solid gallop. However, with just one natural pacesetter in the form of outsider FRIKKIE in the line-up, an upset could be on the cards. This veteran gelding was rested after his uncharacteristic last Kimberley flop but his conditioner will have him fit and ready. The six-year old has produced some decent efforts over further in stronger company and he only weakened late at pinnacle level over 2450m in his penultimate showing.
