Take a look at seven talking points from this past weekend’s sporting action.

Wallabies Break All Blacks Voodoo
Reece Hodge starred as the Wallabies beat New Zealand in the third and final Bledisloe Cup fixture of the season at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane. It was the perfect send-off for Stephen Moore who opted to hang up his boots after Saturday’s match. Australia broke a two-year victory drought over New Zealand, although the latter had secured the Bledisloe Cup – It meant more than that for the Australians.

Australia played with flair and determination, with guys like Sean McMahon and Michale Hooper proving crucial at the breakdowns. Reece Hodge, Kurtley Beale and Marika Koroibete all crossed the whitewash to secure Australia a hard-fought victory.

Huddersfield Stun United
Huddersfield claimed a major scalp when they beat visitors Manchester United on Saturday afternoon. Aaron Mooy broke the deadlock in the 28th minute and five minutes later Laurent Depoitre made it two after Lindelof failed to make a simple header following a goalkick from the Huddersfield keeper. United pressed looking for an equalizer to no avail but Lukaku made a sizzling cross to Rashford who scored in the 78th. But Huddersfield held on to win. Curwin Bosch scored 17 points from his boot – with tries from  Lukhanyo Am, Kobus van Wyk, Louis Schreuder and Ruan Botha sealing the deal for the hosts. The Bulls tried to rally but the Sharks early scores laid a solid foundation for their victory. On another note, Sharks star winger Sbu Nkosi suffered a fractured elbow and will miss the final.

Western Province beat the travelling Lions 19 – 5 in a match that was decided by the boot of Robert du Preez who scored 14 points. Wilco Louw crossed the whitewash for WP and Jaco van der Walt scored for the visitors. The Lions will rue poor decision making by not opting for points in kickable situations. The final will take place in Durban on the 28th of October at 16:00.

Supersport Through to Confed Cup Final
Supersport United traveled to Tunisia for their second and final leg of the CAF Confed Cup. The teams came into the tie on a 1 all aggregate. The host’s hit back after they converted from the penalty spot to make it 2 – 1. SuperSport put the icing on the cake and buried the game when Grobler scored his brace. 3 – 1 it ended and 4 – 2 on aggregate to Supersport. The South Africans will take on TP Mazembe over two legs next month in the final.

Supersport is the second South African team to ever reach the CAF Confed final, and their Coach Eric Tinkler’s second time sending a team to the finals after he performed the same feat with Orlando Pirates two years ago, this time Tinkler will be looking to win the Cup.
