Lions
The Lions will make a trip to Newlands in hopes of claiming a spot in this year's Currie Cup final.

The men from Johannesburg are no strangers to the big stage after they featured in this year's Super rugby final. Eight players who played in that final against the 'Saders will play in this upcoming Currie Cup semi.

Their record of six wins six losses record is fair to say the least. Having said that, they did have the heart of their side ripped out by call-ups to the national side.

Captain Jaques van Rooyen and Ruan Dreyer are pivotal come scrum time with Malcolm Marx a deadly ball stealer adding more value to the forwards. Marvin Orie is excellent at the jump, Cyle Brink's sheer strength with ball in hand has been there fror all to see this season. Kwagga Smith is a lethal runner and ball carrier while Ross Cronje will feed the backline from the base.

But the main talking point should be Rohan Janse van Rensburg. He's a real powerhouse, and once he gets going he's incredibly difficult to stop. Andries Coetzee will be the last line of defence and will be used in set play moves in attacking situations.

The Lions have recalled a number of their Springboks and their intentions are clear - they are going on the road to do nothing but win.

Western Province
Western Province sealed their home semi-final after a masterclass from Robert du Preez Junior against his former club. The Cape claimed to a 31 - 20 win on the road against a somewhat lacklustre Sharks who really had nothing to play for.

Province comes into this game with seven wins and a superb defensive record second to the Sharks. They've scored 10 more tries than the Lions and have missed 52 fewer tackles than the Lions in this year's campaign.

Wilco Louw and JC Janse van Rensburg will start at the prop positions with Bongi Mbonambi having to make sure his lineout throws are accurate to ensure quick ball and continuous play. Captain Chris van Zyl will work alongside the prolific youngster JD Schickerling come lineout time - with Nizaar Carr adding a dynamic edge to attack at number eight.

Dewaldt Duvenage will start at scrumhalf while Robert du Preez will be the marshal for the backline. Huw Jones and EW Viljoen will start as the centre pairing. The latter is exceptional in the air and has a strong boot while his partner provides the ball carries.

Verdict: Lions 13/10
It will be close so I'm not taking the handicap at -3.5 as I think the Lions will smash it so I've opted for the straight win. Based on a more rounded and complete squad that the Lions have set just for this fixture and the inclusion of Boks and 8 of the players that were involved in the Super Rugby final.
