Aviva Premiership: Gloucester v Saracens Preview

Rugby players pack down for scrum

Gloucester will be looking to take full advantage of Saracens missing a plethora of their international stalwarts when the two sides lock horns at the Kingsholm Stadium on Friday the 17th of November.

Johann Ackermann's Gloucester play host to Mark McCall's Saracens in Friday's solitary Aviva Premiership fixture. Both sides will be missing a few of their international stars but it is the visitors who have been hardest hit by the Autumn Internationals with backline stalwarts as  Owen Farrell, Alex Lozowski, and Liam Williams are all set to miss out due to national commitments.

Gloucester v Saracens | Friday 17 November | Kingsholm Stadium | 21:45

To Win (80 Mins)
Gloucester 39/20 | Draw 18/1 | Saracens 9/20

Gloucester
They may sit some 10 points off their opponents on the Aviva Premiership standings but Johann Ackermann's charges have every chance of claiming the spoils this Friday evening. The former Springbok hasn't been as hard hit by international call-ups as his opposite number, as Ackermann's only missing Welshman Owen Williams.

His side also carries decent enough form into this one with the 'Cherry and Whites' hammering London Irish 47-7 and then narrowly going down to Leicester 26-24 in their two Anglo-Welsh fixtures which were played during the Aviva Premiership's two-week break.

Gloucester have also demonstrated that they can mix it with the big boys in the Aviva Premiership this term, claiming the scalps of Bath, Exeter and Northampton. They could well have added Saracens to their trophy collection come the final whistle on Friday.

Saracens
The men from North London are always severely hindered by international windows and this year has proved no different. They are missing several crucial players including their first choice lock pairing, Maro Itoje and George Kruise, all action prop Mako Vunipoal as well as their backline stars.

The absence of these internationals has coincided with a dip in form for the 'Sarries who have lost both of their Anglo-Welsh Cup fixtures. They went down 29-30 to Harlequins a fortnight ago and lost 29-22 to Sale the following week.

Verdict: Gloucester 31/20
Ackermann and his charges will surely smell an upset here with their much-vaunted opponents missing numerous first stringers. My money is on the hosts claiming the spoils here. And at 31/20, the 'Cherry and Whites' are certainly worth backing.
