Barrett Wins Back-to-Back World Rugby Player of the Year Awards



Beauden Barrett became the second Kiwi to win back-to-back World Rugby Player of the Year awards - after Richie McCaw completed the feat in 2009 and 2010.

The All Blacks stole the show when they scooped five awards at the World Rugby Awards ceremony. The New Zealand women's team claimed the team of the year award after claiming the 2017 Women's Rugby World Cup this year.

Prolific youngster, Rieko Ioane won the Breakthrough Player of the Year award after his stellar season for the Blues and for the All Blacks during their sixth Rugby Championship triumph.

Beauden Barret's reaction to his World Rugby Player of the Year Award: 

The flyhalf stands a chance to walk in the footsteps of the legendary Dan Carter, who's won the World Rugby Player of the Year Award three times. Although missing out on a Super Rugby title this year - Barrett came alive at this year's Rugby Championship, as he led his team to their sixth title.

World Rugby's Men's Sevens Player of the Year  - Perry Baker (USA)

The American speedster carried on his form in the 2016/2017 season, finishing with the most points scored last year with 285 and the highest try scorer with 57 tries. Baker looks set to break more records in this new season.
