Aviva Premiership: Gloucester v Leicester Preview

Aviva-Premiership-Gloucester-versus-Leicester-Preview

Gloucester will be looking to put pressure on the teams above them on the Premiership standings when they play host to the Leicester Tigers on Saturday the 10th of February.

Johan Ackermann's Gloucester will be looking to take advantage of Exeter and Saracens missing a handful of players when they take on another weakened side in the form of the Leicester Tigers. This weekend's hosts haven't been near as hard hit by Six Nations national call-ups as the likes of the aforementioned Saracens, Chiefs and Tigers. As such, they could well be the team to watch during the weeks where the Premiership runs concurrently with the Six Nations.

Gloucester Rugby v Leicester Tigers | Saturday 10 February | Kingsholm Stadium | 16:30

To Win (80 Mins)
Gloucester 3/10 | Draw 21/1 | Leicester 51/20

Gloucester Rugby
Johan Ackermann's first year at the helm of Gloucester is going swimmingly, to say the least. The former Golden Lions mentor has guided the 'Cherry and Whites' to the European Rugby Challenge Cup quarter-finals and also has his side sitting fourth on the Aviva Premiership standings with more than half the season having gone by.

Things will only get easier for Gloucester this month as they have retained the majority of their playing squad while most of their semi-final competitors have bled players to England, Wales and Scotland. Speaking of the Welsh and the Six Nations, Dragons mentor, Warren Gatland has released eleven players from his squad, with young Gloucester utility back Owen Williams being one of the players deemed surplus to requirements. His return will only strengthen this Gloucester backline.

Leicester Tigers
They may only be six points adrift of Gloucester on the Premiership standings but the Tigers have an Everest-sized mountain to climb if they are to advance to the semi-final stage. Not only will the Tigers be without Dan Coles, George Ford and Jonny May whenever an England Six Nations fixture roles around, but they also will without the services of Ben Youngs for the most part of the season as the England scrum-half did his MCL ligament in the opening 10-minutes of England's Six Nations opener against Italy.

Leicester also come into this one off the back of some seriously patchy form. They ended their European Rugby Champions Cup run with a heavy away defeat to Castres and a narrow home defeat to Racing Metro. Prior to those two fixtures, Leicester went down 30-6 to the Chiefs and squeaked passed London Irish by 19-15 in their last two Aviva Premiership fixtures.

Verdict: Gloucester 3/10
Johan Ackermann's side will have no problems putting away a Leicester outfit devoid of any real star quality.
