Usain Bolt Set for Soccer Debut at Old Trafford

Usain Bolt set for soccer debut at Old Trafford

The former athlete has revealed the football team he’s signed for, putting to bed the worldwide speculation.

Usain Bolt tweeted on Monday that he would reveal the team that he is joining the following morning at 10am, South African time. What fuelled speculation that he is joining Mamelodi Sundowns is that he visited the team earlier this year and they retweeted the big announcement teaser from his account.  Others thought he was joining Borussia Dortmund, another team that he has trained with in recent months. So, who did he join?

The former sprinter will make his football debut at Old Trafford in a Soccer Aid for UNICEF match as captain for the international celebrities team which will take on England.

The English legends will be captained by Robbie Williams in a match which takes place on the 10th of June 2018. Will Ferrell, Jack Whitehall, Maradona, and Ronaldinho have all played in previous years.

"Reclaiming the title for England this year is going to taste so much sweeter with Usain leading the Soccer Aid World XI," said Robbie Williams, who co-founded Soccer Aid.

Former One Direction members, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson played in the 2016 match.

Soccer Aid has raised over £20 million for UNICEF and the first match took place in 2006. England won the 2016 edition 3-2, with celebrity Mark Wright scoring once and former Three Lions striker Jermain Defoe netting twice.
