Super Rugby: Bulls vs Stormers Preview

Super Rugby 2018: Crusaders v Bulls Preview

The Bulls desperately need a win to revive their campaign while the Stormers will look for their third win in a row when they face off on Saturday the 31st of March.

On paper and when you look at the stats, the Stormers should win this encounter easily.  But although the Bulls have a single win under their belt against title contenders Hurricanes - they are showing signs of improvement, slow as it may be - it's still there.

Bulls

The Bulls desperately need a win to revive their campaign as John Mitchell's team is last in the African conference with a mere five points from their only win against the Hurricanes. Some punters have written the Bulls off but I feel there's a lot of improvement happening.

Although their tactics of going for touch every time they had a point scoring opportunity in Christchurch versus the Crusaders were promising, they maintained possession and camped in their 22. The only trait they were missing was the combination of tactics and execution to actually score.

The Bulls have lost Lood de Jager to injury - Mitch will have to include Ruben van Heerden or Hendre Stassen to fill the vacant role.

Stormers

The Stormers have returned to winning ways with a two-match winning streak after wins against the Reds (25 -19) and the Blues (37 - 20) at Newlands. The Stormers are second in the South African conference with three wins from their six matches.

The Cape side won their recent encounters against the Reds but scraped through as they won the first half by two tries to one and lost the second half in the same fashion but penalties from Damian Willemse gave his side the edge.

We should see a great forward battle amongst the SA contingencies but I feel this match will be won by the team that takes the points rather than go for the corner.

Verdict: Stormers 15/20
The toughest bet of the weekend, but I'm going with the Stormers winning away from home for 1 unit. With the injuries of Lood de Jager and RG Snyman, the Bulls will have a tough time adjusting the forward pack.
