Super Rugby: Sharks vs Stormers Preview

Super Rugby: Sharks vs Stormers Preview
The Sharks host the Stormers in this weekend's only South African Derby on Saturday 21 April.

Robert du Preez and his men will be gutted not to have maintained the momentum they had in New Zealand after beating the Blues and driving the Hurricanes really close to their second loss of the campaign.

The Stormers were completely outclassed in Joburg after four tries by 20-year-old Madosh Tambwe blew them away 52 - 31.

Sharks -2 (9/10)
Stormers +2 (9/10)

Sharks

With four losses from their last five matches - the Sharks look down and out, in a season where on paper they were tipped to take the SA conference and really challenge the Lions. With all due respect, we have seen glimpses of that team - but their inconsistent form has marred their points and win-loss record.

Bulls' full-back Warrick Gelant scored a hat-trick as the Pretoria outfit sunk the Durbanites 40 - 10. The Sharks could only muster up one try as they leaked six. To be honest, the Durban side seemed exhausted after that gruelling tour of Australasia and it was evident against the Bulls as they failed to execute even the simplest of skills.

Look, the Sharks have a talented side but without the right synergy to execute - it will be an even longer campaign.

Stormers

The Stormers are in the 11th position in the overall standings, one behind their weekend counterparts and with the same amount of losses (5), the Stormers will try and pull away from their SA counterparts in an attempt to ensure a playoff berth.

The Capetonians enjoyed their bye week and will come back refreshed and ready to get the monkey off their back. The Stormers have won two of their last five matches with the most commendable against the Blues 37 - 20. Robbie Fleck will treat this as a must win and will hope to ride the same wave the Bulls did.

Verdict: Sharks -2 (9/10) * Forecast handicap
After a lacklustre performance at home, the Sharks will be out not to repeat that same performance. I'll be having a small strike on the Sharks clearing the low handicap.
