ChooseDay: Nike Mercurial Superfly 360 vs Adidas X18 Purespeed

The fever surrounding the soccer world cup has driven us to compare some of the best boots currently in circulation. It’s the Nike Mercurial Superfly 360 vs Adidas X18 in our #chooseday match up, Who will win?

In our first installment of ‘Choose Day,’ we compare two of the best football boots that will grace the pitches of Russia. Today we compare the Nike Mercurial Superfly 360 to the Adidas X18 Purespeed.

1. Nike Mercurial Superfly 360

Player Position:

The shoe is made for the attacking player – guys who rely on their speed and need to quickly change direction in order to evade defenders. The arrowhead studs apparently add a hyperactive response to a player’s movement.

Design and Description:

The shoe is available in a number of brilliant colourways. The shoe is very light and the strong cabling works with the laces to keep the foot in place, helping the athlete generate good power and velocity while shooting. There is very limited slippage of the foot inside once inside of the boot thanks to Nike Grip tech which locks you in so to speak.

Who wears the Superfly 360?

Kylian Mbappe, Cristiano Ronaldo, Marco Asensio, Alexis Sanchez, Ousmane Dembele.

 Price: R 3, 899.95

2. Adidas X18+ Purespeed Energy Mode.

Player Position:

Focused on speed for the attacking midfielder or striker. The X18+ is extremely light equipped with ‘Firm-Ground’ arrowhead studs and round heel studs for sporadic breaks and sudden stops.

Design and Description:

The fact that this boot is laceless really intrigues while  the Skeletal Weave  is both striking and is apparently compiled of a optically charged speed yarns for a better first touch? The low cut collar increases a player’s stability and works well with the rubber front of the shoe. Available in various colourways, we’re likely to see plenty of the standard Blue and Yellow variant at the soccer world cup.

Who wears the X18+?

Gabriel Jesus, Aymeric Laporte,  Son Heung-Min, Lucas Moura, N’Golo Kante,  Alvaro Morata.

Price: R 4 999

What we choose?
If money was not a factor I would hands down take the Adidas X18+. It’s sleek design and laceless upper, plus with the Skeletal Weave around the shoe steals my heart. It looks way more comfortable, easy to slip on and even easier to throw off after a a big effort on the pitch.
But… we can’t ignore the class of the knit collar that comes with the Nike Mercurial Superfly 360. I enjoy its design and I do like the idea of laces which go further in terms of securing your foot. The studs are designed for the same turf, so what we have here is almost the same shoe.

So in closing, save yourself R1k and get the Nike Mercurial Superfly 360. The knit collar and sock-like comfort trumps the low collar from the Adidas. Although I prefer the X18, the value for money really does lie with the Superfly.
