The CONCACAF Gold Cup will get underway this weekend, with Mexico slight favourites ahead of hosts the USA to lift the trophy.

The tournament is made up of 12 teams divided into three groups of four. The top two finishers in each group are given automatic knockout stage spots, but two of the best third-placed teams also advance.

Our football writer previews the Cosafa Castle Cup semi-final between Lesotho and Zimbabwe which takes place on Wednesday night.

Lesotho and Zimbabwe will square off on Wednesday evening for a spot in the Cosafa Castle Cup Final. Lesotho scraped their way to the semi-finals by defeating Namibia on penalties after a goalless 120 minutes. Zimbabwe have produced some sparkling performances in this year’s tournament, topping their play-off group and brushing Swaziland aside in the quarterfinals.


Zimbabwe are playing the best football I’ve seen them play in ages. Their record in this year’s tournament has been stunning. Lesotho come into this match with little less momentum, having played one game so far which needed a penalty shootout to decide the winner.
2017 COSAFA Castle Cup: Zambia v Tanzania Preview



Our football writer analyses the COSAFA Castle Cup semifinals which take place on Wednesday night.

Zambia lock horns with Tanzania in a mouth-watering semi-final which takes place on Wednesday evening. They both go into the encounter on the back of incredible wins against their respective quarterfinal opponents.

Zambia are among the top eight ranked Cosafa teams, therefore, they didn’t have to go through the play-off stage. In the last eight, they beat Botswana 2-1. On the other hand, Tanzania’s route to the penultimate stage of the competition has been a long one. After topping their play-off group, they beat South Africa 1-0 in the quarterfinal to make it into the last four.

The battle for the third place in the 2017 CAF Confederations Cup between Mexico and Portugal promises to be a cracking contest. Both teams have crashed out of the competition after losing their respective semi-final encounters and pride is all to play for as they look to end off well and give their fans something to cheer about.

This is a repeat of these sides’ group stage meeting in which Mexico came back twice to salvage a 2-2 draw. Portugal’s attacking prowess can not be doubted but their defence leaves a lot to be desired.
