 Week 36 Preview

The excitement never ends and while Chelsea and Leicester City both lost on the weekend, the mayhem around the race for top four has only just begun.

With Manchester City winning their appeal against their two-year UEFA ban, just two other teams will join them alongside the champions, Liverpool, in next season’s Champions League. As far as the relegation battle goes, we bid farewell to Norwich on the weekend as they were hammered 4-0 by West Ham. Elsewhere, Watford, Bournemouth and Aston Villa all won their ties which is now likely to take the fight for survival right down to the wire.

Tuesday 14 July

Chelsea 1/7
Draw 15/2
Norwich City 17/1
The gameweek kicks off with what should be considered an ultimate banker bet, despite Chelsea losing 3-0 last weekend to Sheffield United. The Blues host Norwich in their penultimate home game of the season, and with Manchester United slipping up on Monday night and Leicester City losing this past weekend, this has become a must-win for Frank Lampard’s men if they are to solidify their spot in the top four.

The Canaries were relegated on the weekend and have three matches of top-flight football left to prepare for life in the Championship next season. The Home Totals – Over 2.5 Goals – is where I’m putting my money at 6/10.

Wednesday 15 July

Newcastle United 7/2
Draw 26/10
Tottenham 8/10
After claiming derby bragging rights against Arsenal, Tottenham seek back-to-back wins against a Newcastle side looking to bounce back from their 2-1 defeat at Watford. On home soil, the Magpies will prove to be a tricky test for Spurs with the hosts unbeaten in six matches at St. James’ Park, beating Chelsea and Sheffield United, while Jose Mourinho’s side have won just once away from home in the league this year, and are winless in their last four away trips. Newcastle are my value bet to get a point here.

Manchester City 2/13
Draw 15/2
Bournemouth 14/1
After successive 5-0 victories, Manchester City welcome relegation-threatened Bournemouth to the Etihad Stadium. The former champions are in fine form but Pep Guardiola did hint at rotating some of his players for their semi-final clash against Arsenal on the weekend. That would make very little difference for the way Bournemouth need to prepare for this game with any City side capable of wiping the floor with the Cherries on their day. Take Over 3.5 Goals here at 7/10.

Burnley 36/10
Draw 23/10
Wolves 9/10
Having gone under the radar throughout the entire campaign, Burnley look to get closer to the European places when they host a Wolves team currently in the driving seat to play in the Europa League and could still finish in the Champions League places.

Both teams come off the back of a morale-boosting result with the visitors claiming a 3-0 win over Everton, while Burnley became the first team to avoid defeat at Anfield this season, drawing 1-1 against Liverpool. With no guts to pick an outright winner here, I’ll play it safe and back Under 2.5 Goals at 5/10.

Arsenal 28/10
Draw 28/10
Liverpool 9/10
Arsenal will welcome the champions to the Emirates Stadium this Wednesday with Mikel Arteta looking to return to winning ways before he faces Manchester City again in the FA Cup this weekend. The signs are clear that Arteta is building a great team ahead, but results haven’t always been forthcoming with the Gunners losing to Tottenham, while they also failed to put their chances to bed in their last home tie, drawing 1-1 with Leicester City.

Liverpool come off the back of their first dropped points at Anfield, sharing the spoils with Burnley in a 1-1 draw. Jurgen Klopp has clearly shown that he will tinker with his team from now until the end of the campaign with Neco Williams and Curtis Jones expected to get more minutes on Wednesday. The Reds have always had Arsenal’s number, but that was with something to play for. Now, Arteta’s side may be able to get a point.

Thursday 16 July

Everton 1/1
Draw 51/20
Aston Villa 26/10
Thursday’s action kicks off at Goodison Park where Everton host Aston Villa. The Toffees have fallen off the boil in recent matches, enduring a three-game winless run in the league, scoring just once in that run. Villa will be hoping last weekend’s 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace can kick-on their push for survival with huge fixtures against Arsenal and West Ham coming up. Everton are still unbeaten on home soil under Carlo Ancelotti and should see themselves return to winning ways here against Villa.

Leicester City 1/1
Draw 47/20
Sheffield United 3/1
With arguably the toughest fixture list remaining from the teams chasing a place in next season’s UEFA Champions, Leicester City need as much points as possible going into their clash with Manchester United on the final day of the season. The Foxes come off the back of a confidence-bruising 4-1 defeat at Bournemouth which saw Caglar Soyuncu also sent off, resulting in the Turkish defender to miss the remainder of the campaign. Sheffield United look to be back on track, winning three of their last four ties, including resounding wins over Tottenham, Wolves and Chelsea. My money is on the Blades to Win or Draw at 15/20.

Crystal Palace 8/1
Draw 38/10
Manchester United 7/20
After blowing their chance to leapfrog Leicester City and Chelsea on Monday night with their draw against Southampton, Manchester United still have their fate in their own hands and will need to win all three of their remaining games to confirm their spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Crystal Palace beat United at Old Trafford earlier this season and will be looking to do the double over the Red Devils. The Eagles will pose a much better threat than Southampton did and United will have to be on top of their game if they are to get a positive result here. I fancy United to Win & Both Teams to Score at 21/10.

Southampton 12/10
Draw 9/4
Brighton 5/2
After their impressive result on Monday night against Manchester United, Southampton stretched their unbeaten run to four matches – which includes a 1-0 win over Manchester City in that period. The Saints have looked sharp in midfield and attack and are almost guaranteed goals whenever they step foot onto the pitch.

Brighton have lost three of their last ties, but they were all against Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City. Graham Potter’s side were impressive in their last two ties against the current and former champions and will definitely eye a return to winning ways against Southampton. Take Over 2.5 Goals at 21/20.

Friday 17 July

West Ham 14/10
Draw 2/1
Watford 23/10
Friday night sees West Ham and Watford do battle at the London Stadium with both sides looking to distance themselves from the drop zone. West Ham and Watford sit in 16th and 17th spot, level on 34 points with goal difference putting the hosts higher on the table.

The Hammers come off the back of an all-relegation scramble last weekend when they smashed Norwich 4-0, confirming their relegation to the Championship. The Hornets also come into this encounter with some decent form, winning their last two ties against Newcastle and Norwich. Both Teams to Score looks the best bet here at 7/10.

DOUBLE @ 12/1
Newcastle vs Tottenham Draw 26/10
Arsenal vs Liverpool Draw 28/10
